I am a graduate of the Ohio State University where I studied English.  I now work on the bookmobile at my local library.  In the fall I will start work on my MFA at Emerson College.  I love travelling, music, and all things literary.  I hope for a life full of adventures to keep me full of material.  The biggest influences on my writing have been Mary Karr, William Least-Heat Moon, Edward Abbey, Geraldine Brooks, and recently Diana Gabaldon, who has inspired me to move away from nonfiction and try my hand at historical fiction.

“You’re giving good hair!” he shouted over the thumping dance music. “What?” I yelled back. “You’re giving good hair!” I loved the way his accent made that last work sound as light yet as dense as a puff of smoke. I laughed and smiled coyly to show my gratitude and continued dancing, but closer now and more aware of my vibrant red hair bouncing in rhythm across my bare shoulders. It was a basement bar in Bath where the vodka tonics glowed electric blue in the black lights. The hard house musi...

On Words and Movement The stage finally illuminates in a bombardment of colored lights. The music begins almost simultaneously and I turn my attention to the two longhaired men with guitars on the platform above. They are pelting out an impeccably precise brand of heavy metal, as intricate and melodic as it is chaotic and somber. The stage remains empty, pulsing with potential energy. At last, the dancers enter the stage, towering majesties in their pointe shoes. Their skin gleams pale in the...

This is a very evocative scene that you have created here. It's very poetic, but straight forward at the same time, which is a great balance to pull off. I love the richness of the description. I wonder what you envision for this piece. It almost stands alone quite nice just as a short short, but I can also see this working as a way into a larger body of work. Whatever you decide, excellent job, I can barely fault you on the writing at all, I would lvoe to read more.
Non-fiction / IN MY WALLET
I like what you have down here. I too am a research junky. I think it is coming from that point of view that I would almost like for you to expand on just what the research process is like for you. Describe for us those toilsome hours in the library. Aside from being a better writer, do you derive any other sort of pleasure from it? Another slant I was thinking of would be, how does research play a role in this very article? Did you do any research about research? I think it would be amazing ...
Non-fiction / Battling the Bean
This is really funny, but I must admit that I'm a bit anti-Chipotle, so much of it was lost on me. Anyway, you set this scene up quite nicely, with lots of good description and witty observation, but I kind of wish you would push it a bit further. What do you want the reader to take away from this anecdote? Is it just for laughs? If so I think we need more set-up, more imagination...more something. I feel like once again, your writing here is strong, but the story itself is lacking. I mean, w...
