OK. You have conflicting statements here. One is about craving (passion), the other about indifference (apathy). This shows a wide range of emotions in the writer's life. I would have liked to feel the presence of a subject here.

I have no problem with "whilst" or "amongst". That said, "whilst" is not really necessary in this statement. You could consolidate "wondering through" to "Ranging". This would save you a word. Ranging life, taking notes, __________ __________ ? Just a suggestion.
