I understand your comment that this is a piece from a larger work. it leaves so much unanswered as a stand alone piece of work, although I feel it would be much more enjoyable when finished. I would definitely be interested in reading the finished version. It does remind me of Mr Kings work in many ways. A very powerful and emotive piece of work. Well written with atmosphere and feeling. The opening paragraph made me feel uncomfortable, I don't really like reading things about death, but it is obvious a lot of thought has gone into the decriptive wording, staring at the blade and his body and back to the blade. I enjoyed the prologue very much. Because it is only the beginning and not enough is known about any of the characters, especially Kathryn, it does feel a little cold. I would like to know just a little more as to why they are at a church. It would be a strange affair if one side of the partnership just ran away and married, especially a lesbian woman marrying a man out of the blue. I think with just a little more explanation, I would have felt far more empathy with (for?) Kathryn.
