I have been writing since I was six years old and I plan on majoring in English in college and becoming a journalist. I was a freelance sportswriter for Rivals.com for two seasons. I consider myself to be an aspiring writer and hope to start getting some short stories and poem published so I can build a profile to aid me when I submit my novel that is co-authored for publication

Prelude Gary Sievers sat quietly on the beach, legs outstretched, arms at his side with his fingers busy sifting through the grains of sand as the sun began its slow journey descending from the horizon above the clouds and back into the seas. He watched for a moment as a collective of seagulls picked their way through the treasured morsels of food tourists had left behind. It was early summer and the cool breeze kissed against his skin as the aroma of the salty ocean water tickled his nostril...

Departing Jasper It was raining hard that night, harder than what I would have anticipated for a balmy night in the middle of May. The wipers rocked back and forth across the windshield doing their best to bring forth clarity from amidst the haze. I remember that it was difficult to see regardless, and the visibility was further diminished by the low lying fog that seemed to dance across the road. My head was spinning from the tequila that was coursing through my veins and I admit that I real...

Chapter 1 "Come on man, an hour of your life is not going to kill you." Sean stated, smiling through his sandy beard that seemed to have a personality all its own. Gary just shook his head at his friends words, running his fingers nervously through his burnt sienna hair before letting a drawn out sigh escape from his lungs. Sean had been bugging him for months to come along to one of the fellowship meetings on campus, but Gary had always managed to finagle his way out of an appearance. Tonigh...

I really like the start but its a little open ended both at the beginning and end. I think this story is really missing the Who? Who is she? It's hard to care about the character if I know nothing about her though I can certainly feel for her circumstances. It's a good start but its not yet a story. I would metaphorically say you have the meat, so its time to go back and slip the meat between the bread (beginning and end).
I have felt that way before too. Certainly a thought that we call all relate to and one that is not only humourous but invokes the humor in others.
Wonderful flow. I love how you not only express your personal view but also pay tribute to Mr. Thompson. You really captured the moment and are able to invoke so money feelings without using descriptions of your own emotion. That takes talent.
Purely by definition life is what you say it is in the simplest of terms. But I think there is so much more to life that is not expressed in those six words. I think to sum up life you must be a little more complex.
