I have been journaling profusely for almost twenty years. In college, I turned in a paper for my Political Philosophy class two weeks late because I had a break-through and my writing was set free. It was a pivotal moment in my life. My professor called me into his office, and told me that my writing sets me apart in a compelling way from the rest of my peers. He gave me a D! :) Since then, I wrote for the school paper, wrote three full novels and several short stories. Someday, I will live off my writing; it’s not a question of IF, but of WHEN! In the meantime, I load and unload trucks at a warehouse! It’s the Hope that keeps me in suspense. Faith in my characters keeps me writing :)

The Green Maiden I. The sun is setting but it never fully rests here on the plains of Himma. Three women are sitting on what appears to be a smooth slab of stone, but it is really the muscular shoulder of a golden dragon that was petrified in a long-forgotten war. The plains are full and green, dotted here and there with lilies and flowers. Fireflies are winking in and out among soft beds of grass. The skies are pink with shades of twilight blue. One star is visible in the sky and the ladies ...

Dear Mr. Kirshbaum, I am seeking representation for my novel, Central Park begins in Harlem. I am enclosing a synopsis and a sample chapter. This book is my love letter to New York City, the city so nice they named it twice! I am still amazed at how twenty minutes on the subway can take you to seemingly different worlds: from Harlem to Madison Avenue, to Times Square, the East Village and Brooklyn Heights. This city is an amalgam of both the dreams of the people who live there and the fruiti...

Susanna Einstein LJK Literary Management, LLC Attn: Submissions 708 3rd Avenue 16th floor New York, NY 10017 Dear Susanna, I am seeking representation for my novel, The King of Nothing, complete at 46,460 words. The sequel, The Kingdom inside the Cat, is nearly complete and I am presently outlining the third installment, entitled The Green Maiden. I have always been fascinated with the allegory and imagery in my own dreams. Wouldn’t it be fun if there was somebody out there who had th...

This is a very moving poem, though it is peppered with "I" statements. In this poem, I would love to read more about what the circumstances were that led to this event and maybe get a little deeper into the good, the bad, the ugly of your relationship with him, and why he ended up thinking suicide may have been a good idea. Thank you!
This a very poignant, compelling confessional piece that--as you already warned--is very raw and honest and even comical at times: eg. "sunken chest with a lot of bootie." Not sure if you did this on purpose, but there aren't many commas, no breaks between many many years of traumatic experiences. Before you know it, the poem is over in a flash. I appreciated the ending--relieved that there is some hope in this tragic tale. Thanks!
I can picture this as a very nostalgic piece with guitar accompaniment, something along the lines of Nora Jones or Melody Gardot. The problem with trying to get poetry to rhyme is that it imprisons the piece in its own potential. You can still write a beautiful song without having the words rhyme and it won't sound as dissonant as you'd expect. Quite the opposite! You'll have access to more word ammunition and the song will resonate deeper with the listener. Thanks!
Flash Fiction / Maybe an Ache
The prose definitely had a rhythm to it, capturing the nervous tension that comes with moving to a different place. "Dervishes of leaves" is a nice touch...possible religious undertones? In any case, the imagery here is very sound. "Hell, words could never put a finger"...almost as if you have given up on attempting to express these old sensations. Try not to give up.
Sci Fi & Fantasy / Setting The Table-Part 3
Things are happening really quickly in this story. At this point, have the vanishings stopped? Are there people trying to figure out how this happened? And if U-tube is up and running, what other forms of infrastructure are functioning and what is not functioning. How is life harder in this world, and how has life possibly become more convenient? This is a very engaging read! Thanks!
