Reading and writing has been my escape and passion for as long as I can remember.  Through books, I have traveled me all over the world, experienced many cultures, met different people and tagged along on adventures beyond my imagination.

I’ve been writing all my life, mostly poetry and short stories in my early teens.  Until this site, I’ve shared very little beyond family, a few friends and some teachers.  

I accidentally managed to find a few of my pieces published locally; two in college publications not under my name, when helping my daughter get through the poetry section of her English course.  She got an A in that class and an invite to read her “work” at an awards banquet, which she didn’t accept.  It was a little awkward …

I’ve been writing all my life, mostly poetry and short stories in my early teens.  Until this site, I’ve shared very little beyond family, a few friends and some teachers.  

I accidentally managed to find a few of my pieces published locally; two in college publications not under my name, when helping my daughter get through the poetry section of her English course.  She got an A in that class and an invite to read her “work” at an awards banquet, which she didn’t accept.  It was a little awkward but we got a big laugh out of it! :-)  

I did the online publishing with some of my poetry, but stopped when I realized it was more of a vanity press.  I did win an award for one of my poems, which stroked my vanity button a little, which of course is the purpose of the vanity press publishing!  

My early to mid twenties, I wrote little to nothing.  Creativity was put on back burner while I worked two jobs and raised my daughter.  My mid to late twenties, I started writing again.  I supposed it was to try to expell the pain I was experiencing in my life; to try to write away my demons.  My writing was as dark as that period of my life.

That time morphed, as I reconciled with my husband after 7 1/2 years, had my 2nd child and received a cancer diagnosis at age 30.  Radiation, other treatments and finally a life changing operation left me free of the tumor.  It also left me with drastically different priorities and a more thoughtful, spiritual mind set.  As a result, my writing turned inward.
  
There was another writing dry spell of sorts, as I raised my own three children, the 3rd, my miracle boy, as the doctors said I could never have another child :-) ... and then four of my sister’s children.  

In 2001, I divorced after being married 26 years.  I met an artist, musician and writer, who ultimately became my best friend.  He ignited in me a passion for writing (among other things) that was beyond any I had experienced in the past.  

Once again I wrote (mostly to him and about him), but I also expanded from simple poetry to poetic prose to fantasy and erotica to articles and other genres and formats.  

With his encouragement, I have found the courage to share with other writers on this site.  He’s also the reason a lot of what I’ve written the last few years has a lot to do with the complexities of life and love and the frustration associated with it.  :-)

That is where I am now and why I am here.  I want to write and rewrite what I’ve written in the past.  I want to get honest feedback and improve and do the best work I am capable of.  I want to be a published author.  I love to write letters, which would be in today’s world would be considered blogs and articles.  I haven’t posted and of those here yet.  I’m not sure why.  

I’d really love to have a relationship advice column someday.  Seriously, everyone tells me I give great advice, not that I always follow it myself!!  

I’m also on Urbis to to read the works of other writers, and am fascinated by the variety and range of what I’ve encountered so far, specifically regarding vocabulary, syntax and subtle, complex imagery.  

By contrast, my writing style is very straightforward and simplistic.  You won’t find yourself reaching for a dictionary and I don’t think you’ll have to reread any of my pieces to get my meaning, unless I’ve really screwed it up in some way, which is very possible.  Usually, I put it out there in simple black and white, in simple language and simple style.  I’d like to grow beyond that in some ways and experiment more.

Okay, that’s way too much information.  Most quit reading several paragraphs back, but for those of you who are still with me …

I’ve been very hesitant about what I’ve posted to date to get used to the review process from both sides; reviewing and being reviewed.  I must say I love it and some of the commenting back and forth is just as helpful, if not more so, than the actual reviews.  I’ve certainly had some interesting and entertaining exchanges.  

I have only run into one, perhaps two reviewers, who I refer to as “The Urbis Playground Bullies”. LOL!  You know who you are!!  Even those were entertaining and it takes a lot more than arrogance, cockiness and a smart arse attitude to offend me.  In fact, I find it amusing.  I have three teenage boys, am a 17+ year cancer survivor, four grandchildren, an active dating life  and am often mistaken for being ten years younger than I am.  Because of, or in spite of all that, it takes a lot to rattle my world.  So there!  :)
              
Now, I am going to go review someone’s work, edit some of mine and possibly post something new.  I’m an insomniac a lot of nights, so this is a great site for that, although I walk that thing line of addiction here! :-)
