Hi! I’ve been writing as long as I can remember. Writing was a way to purge myself of all those emotions. A few years ago some friends challenged me to start writing lyrics. I took the challenge, and slowly I’ve been learning and (hopefully) improving. Now I’m writing poetry to my guy. I’m getting mushy in my old age ;)
I’m ready to open myself up to more teachers, more critics. . .
My mother was a kindergarten teacher and I read stories to her classes since I could read. When I worked at the library I planned & performed a number of storytimes. I still love reading good preschool stories, the ones that just beg to be read to at least one listener. . .
Thanks for reading!

Too many years were empty, too many days spent by the phone Too many hours spent wondering why I was sitting alone Now my world is changed – I found that magical moon I’m playing the same music but singing a different tune I get the love songs Understand the mushy sappy coo I get the love songs See the rainbows every hue I hear with my heart I know what it’s all about I get the love songs now Now that I’ve got you Gershwin songs are sweeter, I sing show tunes in the shower Found the easy list...

The first faint wail, those chubby cheeks No sleep at all that week Wobbly steps, one candle cake New discoveries when you’re awake The terrible twos are hard to take Then it’s school, learning to write Missing teeth are quite a sight Riding a bike, another skinned knee Cheering during the spelling bee Finding a good climbing tree Snapshots of a life On to high school, those football games It will never be the same College plans, go out on dates Take a look at those insurance rates Curfew is...

I love the dual meaning. I can see a swan on the lake ignoring you, and I can see a man looking over you in a crowd. Nice, very nice.
The sentiment is there, now work on the rhythm & flow. My favorite line is: I want the sun to come out now I’ve been living in the dark for too long. Great title, now live up to it.
Parts of this gives me goosebumps & parts make me scream. I love the emotion shown. I hate the rhythm. I love the marilyn monroe/james dean line. I'd prefer the mothers eyes/fathers pace be later in the piece. Some tense problems. Do you love the child now or will it only be in the future? (The love I’ll have for you will never die.) Keep working on this - it deserves to be perfect.
Nice rhythm, beautiful imagery. "as we explore" is a little clumsy, harsher as compared to the other lines.
