I’m a twenty something who has recently completed a MA in English.  I’ve loved writing forever; age 13 seems closer to the actual time, and it seems like it’s always been with me.  At times when I wasn’t writing, something seemed to be missing from my life.  I’ve began trillions of short stories after starting many novels and realizing I didn’t have time, focus, or direction to finish them.  A few classes pointed me towards short stories, and I’ve loved them since then.  I enjoy reading and writing poetry more than critiquing it, but I’m learning that critiquing poetry isn’t as bad as I once thought.
Poetry was my passion at an earlier age, and I occasionally will get a poetry spurt and churn out a few. Now that I’ve completed my degre…

Pilar Evans stood in front of the dressing room mirror in Sin City, an exclusive gentlemen’s club, and finished getting ready for her performance. She turned sideways in front of the mirror to see if her stomach was starting to show. She knew she was only a few weeks along, but Pilar stared at herself in the mirror to make sure her stomach was still smooth. Her peanut butter colored stomach still had a few muscles, but she knew that would end soon. Pilar smoothed her sheer lilac lingerie dres...

I sit here staring into your eyes And I wonder what have we become I can’t seem to recognize any thing about us anymore We stopped laughin months ago You don’t touch me anymore And the thought of you inside me Makes me gag I can’t have your kids Because we’ve killed too many Of them together We were supposed to build a life Of love For us For our kids But each time we create a miracle Together, you say “now, isn’t the time Get rid of it?” So I sit here Staring at you Wonderin why I still love...

Short Story / The Singer
I like this. It's a accurate description of singers. Although brief, I can see someone standing over one of those old mics pouring their all into the song. Cool.
Flash Fiction / A Wooden Spoon
You have great descriptions. I can see the man, the boy, the dog, and the "ugly woman" with the rope like arms quite clearly. Good job with those. On the first page, there is quite a bit of repetition with the same sentence beginnings, but considering it's done throughout the paper, I'm guessing that it's done on purpose. However, perhaps a little sentence variety occasionally would work well for you. The repetition of "the dog," "the boy," "the glass," "the man," "the woman" becomes rather m...

Journalism / Six Word Memoir
Many writers can identify with the alone aspect described. So many of us have to lock ourselves away from the world to accomplish what we want done. The "utterly alone" phrase is somewhat frightening and peaceful at the same time. I like the thought of immortal imagination-one that lives on forever. It gives more power to the imagination. I liked this.
Haiku/Senryu / When Bush Speaks
Coupled with the title, this haiku speaks volumes. On one hand, it could be a citizen fearing what Bush has to say. On the other hand, it could be Bush having the fear and speaking "leaked truth" and lies. I like that this could be read from either perspective. Interesting!
