I need to give credit where credit is due.
I’ve written for years, with very few eyes falling upon my words. A student of mine introduced me to this site recently.
Thank you.

Redeeming oneself seems to be fiction. Personal history lingers and creeps for the nonce into the mind’s daily thoughts. Pretending your transgressions don’t endure, they are the shadows lurking behind you. Mild words or images trigger the past, pervading your life with unending pain, slinging sordid sins back to the present. There is no escape or honest refuge, Absolution’s an allowance unseen.

His eyes gazed at the images there, and the noise permeated the air. The TV remained on, his ideas long gone, as the sluggish boy lounged in his chair. One more show, one more hour, one more day, In the house with TV he would stay. His mom started to fret as she saw him forget how to dash out in sunshine to play. Mom decided to turn off his shows, and get her child up onto his toes. Feeling good on his feet and away from his seat, dashing, running and skipping he goes! In the yard he enjoys t...

He would not eat his peas or his corn, Nor his sprouts nor his beans nor his gourds. Mother hoped and she prayed He would eat them one day, But ‘til then just his plate they’d adorn. Once his eye caught a glimpse of a yam, Vibrant orange the boy thought it a sham! A small bite he did try, And he then wondered why In his mouth not enough he could cram! If the yam he did like was so sweet Were there others that he’d like to eat? Yellow, green, purple, red, Eat a rainbow Mom said! She’s so proud...

Glimmering smiles, Laughter cherished, Ardent love for humanity. Her presence enriched all, and yet… the Power, the Power of the inebriated and the reckless… Tragically ripped her away from the terrene world.

In and out of days and months We travel through the years Side by side, hand in hand Smiles, laughter, pain, and tears. Together we are stronger Than we ever could be apart; God has united us in marriage To create this work of art. May we shine with vibrant love, Be enveloped with admiration; May we never get enough of This beautiful marital passion.

Nice piece, but the wording seems a bit off in the way of form. The line "And wakes by day" doesn't sound quite right...perhaps "And wakes the day"...it's referring to the sun, yes? I like how the sinner lives in darkness, so to speak, and how the darkness brings out the sinning in him. The darkness representing the devil or evil.
"Words which write incendiary "...my favorite line! Perfect for your topic of book burning. "Seeking truth in contradiction", too, is an excellent phrase. We teach our children to read and encourage them to do so...yet book burning occurs, great literature is banned...including the classics. I would love to see this piece published...and to use it in my own classroom. Bravo.
Yes. So true. Although we're excited for it, we are still hesitant of the unknown. Well spoken.
Nice limerick overall, but I had some hesitation with the flow of the last line. The length of lines 1, 2, and 5 don't quite match...but lines 1 and 2 are close enough to one another to not make much of a difference. The last line, though, need another syllable...but not so may single syllable words. As for the subject matter, isn't it free will itself that causes the greed?
