I am 32 and the oldest child with five younger brothers. Married for eight years, no children but a veritable zoo of pets. My family moved around a lot when I was young; the most exotic place we lived was Aruba and I have lived in Baton Rouge Louisiana for the past 19 years. I love to read, write, sing, crossword puzzles, create art and play pool. I began writing at the age of 8 when I received my first diary as a birthday gift. Moving around so much and my appearance being so different from the most other children prevented me from making friends and often made me the butt of horrible teasing. I escaped in reading and writing, they were my closest companions. When I married my husband I began to ignore the creative side of myself…

Baton Rouge, Louisiana is the home of the LSU Tigers as well as thousands of fans who will all insist that they are the most devoted. There are varying degrees of fanaticism ranging from college students who support the team because it is their duty, the alumni who are unwavering in keeping up traditions to the average Louisiana resident who also happens to be a football fan. My husband George falls into that last category and I consider him to be the Tiger’s number one fan because his obsess...

One simple error dictates the slighted path. Images obscured by a vision disguised as reflection. A whispered dream enables faith and hope to survive the despair of ignorance. Willfully endangering the purity of our souls with suspicion and dread. We can define our purpose as beings transfixed by obsessive addiction.

As you draw nearer, skipping, tripping A faint impression of subconscious dread Awaken enfolded in the horror of reflection A shriek escapes, sounding off like a siren An infinite echo of guiltless pleasure Wetting my lips as you struggle to swallow Oh, Dandy night!

Losing You Don’t turn, turn, turn away, because tomorrow is another day. Yes, I know we have nothing left to say; but I still wish you would stay. And so I must be losing you. I have to be letting you go. It’s something I know I must do. Even though I’ll always love you. On the very first day that I saw you, I knew that I would inevitably lose you. To love you would put me through so much pain and confusion. And so I must be losing you. I have to be letting you go. It’s something I know I mus...

I think you did a great job of expressing the despair and desperation of someone who is feeling suicidal. The word 'too' should be used instead of when describing something that is 'more so' or 'also'.
I like the imagery of this piece. Word lover is someone I identify with and the reference to light and stains leaves me wondering. I like the curiosity I feel from reading your poem. Good work.
The first two lines really grabbed me but the next two left me wanting. I probably just missed the point. It seems to me like a sandwich with the meat missing.
This is a good poem, I like how it tells a story and everything comes full circle. In the last stanza I think 'lead' should be 'led'.
This started out well, the first three lines grabbed me but after that it fizzled out. I want to feel the regret that comes from knowing too little too late. Great start, though.
