The universality of the statement connects immediately to the reader. Every reader can at one time or another acknowledge a dilemma like this one. Also, the lack of resolution in the statement makes us want to find out more about the writer. Well selected words. Somewhat melancholy statement.

I struggled to get whether you were speaking of a sister, other relative or a female lover. It almost seems as if you want to use iambic pentameter, but then you draw back because you don't want to rhyme, or have a cadence. Don't be so structure-bound that you miss where the art wants to take you.

Excellent for a memoir. It relates both an individual and universal struggle. Bravo.
