I’m Chinese and I live in Singapore. I taught English in Primary Schools for more than a decade. Now I’m a writer/consultant/trainer for an education company.
I’ve loved reading and writing fantasy since I was a teenager. My first fantasy book was the Elfstones of Shanhara, and of course the pre-requisite LOTR and Dragonlance Chronicles followed. I’m much more into heroic and historical fantasy nowadays…the problem with growing up is u outgrow dragons, elves and magic-users. But I still love writing them.
Favorite authors: David Gemmel, George RR Martin, Steven Erikson, Bernard Cornwell, Mathew Woodring Stover, R Scott Baker, Robert Low.

He started forward, joining the rest of the boys at the holding area. They gave him dark looks. Some even sneered at his old helmet. All of them were from noble families, sons of lords and knights. They could afford much better quality arms and armour. He was the only commoner amongst them. Out in the tournament square, the herald had made his introductions. Then the trumpets blared and the boys shuffled out, forming two lines in the parade square. Leon’s heart hammered in his chest and his p...

Leon strapped on his leather wrist guards carefully, then shrugged into the training armour. Calling it ‘armour’ was a joke, as it was nothing more than a heavily padded overcoat. He hoped it would afford some protection from the wooden practice sword his opponent would be using. Lastly, he lifted the dented iron helm1 from the table and put it on. It was a little too large for him, being made for a full-grown man, but it made Leon feel more secure. The nose-guard slipped too low so he pushed...

CChapter 1 _I stood in a place_ _Where the darkness converged_ _And light was swallowed_ _I stood in a place_ _Where night ruled._ _Dragonar Song of the Night_ The figure stood, gazing out of the tower’s only window, the astrological device gripped in his powerful hands. Icy winds tore around the tower’s parapet. The landscape was harsh and wintry, as it always was in the Northern Wastes. Craggy, impenetrable mountains reared their ancient peaks, surrounding the fortress of rough hewn, ancien...

Chapter 5 Mageorbs cannot be mined, or constructed by any means or designs. These receptacles of great arcane power can only be grown, and only by Dragonar Mages of supreme power. Once created, the mageorb will embed itself upon the Master’s body. It can only be removed by the mage himself or upon his death, and by then it would have stored or accumulated incredible power. That makes mageorbs an extremely sought-after artifact by thaumaturgists of other races. The problem of course, lay in ki...

Chapter 3 Everlorn is in need of a firm hand to guide it, a strong man to lead it. A ruler that is both decisive and ruthless. An Emperor. In other words…me. ~Emperor Maxian XII – private musings The huge beast sniffed the air. It could smell prey…and something else. There was an acrid stench. The creature recognized it. Foul sorcery of some sort cast a bitter tinge in the air. It shook its massive, shaggy head from side to side and growled, saliva dripping from its huge canines. It felt…fear...

A very nice sci-fi piece, although as you've mentioned, a little over-done in pop-culture (terminator, asimov, electric dreams (lmao) etc). Still, the prose was strong, although a little lacking in emotion (even though it's a journal, its written by someone who's expecting to die soon, sounds a little TOO fatalistic). 2012 to 2015 – If We Only Knew… I feel from this part on it goes very 'Terminatorish'...why did Adam suddenly decide that? And how was he able to destroy humankind just like tha...
Now that's what I call a chapter! Great action sequence, stiletto heel thru the eye rofl that's so Single White Female! As usual, crackling pace, fantastic dialog (killed by shirley fucking temple...that's priceless!) and very, very movie-like. I could see this movie playing out in my mind totally. Although one point, the switch of focus from quinn and now to caren, seems a little abrupt. There was no build-up to that, I don't get it for now, but reading your further chapters might change tha...
Again, great dialogue, very believable characters, and I love the witty retorts ('sleep with one eye open' roflmao). Again I have to complain, the brevity of your chapters, make me think you're writing more of a graphic novel/comic then a real novel. I know part of the charm is the short/quick writing, so u may wanna think about combining chapters to make them longer. Like this chapter could be combined with chapter 3, with * * * between your former chapters to indicate a break in time. Might...
