I’m a Warwick University student and student Radio DJ and I alternate between Warwick Uni and Milton Keynes, (in terms of where I live.) Writing is a huge passion of mine, a fact I sometimes have to remind myself of every time I have a 4000 word essay to write for my course. The truth is though that I have been writing all kinds of literature since the first time I could pick up a crayon and scrawl my name, in handwriting little better than I could write with my feet nowadays.

I think to be able to write well, you have to be open to life and all the experiences it offers you. I think I’ve lead a fairly interesting life already and I’m only nineteen, and all of those experiences have inspired me in one way or another. I lived in Germa…

Scene One: What did you want to be? A small kitchen at the back of a fast food restaurant, Jenni and Andy are stood alone together both getting on with tasks. Jenni is doing the washing up and Andy is stood with a clipboard in hand and scratching behind his ear with a pencil. Both are in uniform but slightly messy around the edges, fringes poking out from under caps and food stains on their t-shirts and aprons. T-Rex- 20th Century Boy is playing on the radio quietly in the background. Jenni: ...

Journalism / A day in the country

I'm so glad I left: Today I was tricked by my parents into a day in the country. I mean don't get me wrong...I grew up there, in a tiny village in the sticks which was great when I was still in the 'let's play with mud and dead animals' stage. But I feel like since I left, the country still hasn't changed, most places are still in a 90's time-warp and it freaks me out a bit. This morning I had a nice long lie in until 11.00 when my Mum yelled up the stairs 'Emily we're going out for a pub lun...

There are many things we put up with in life. Just silly little things that you don't want to let into your conciousness because they will only slowly grind away at your bones like sandpaper. Maybe its a grumpy look from a stranger, a mindless bulletin posted on myspace, a headless pidgeon you watch decompose every day on your way to work or the way you smell of sandwiches every time you get home from work, getting asked for photos by some creepy pervert and being caught out in rain storms. O...

Inner child -vs- mature adult I guess its time for the obligatory end of year blog, one where I sum up the year, tell you what I have learnt, who I have become and other heart warming epiphanies which you will mull over whilst staring out of car windows or whilst brushing your teeth in the morning. But strangely...I'm having trouble writing it this year. For the past 5 years or so I have written a diary entry or a blog on how the year has gone for me and its always been an emotional, spiritu...

Novel Treatments / Future Crime Chpt 1
I'll be honest. First impressions were a little sketchy, mainly because this isn't the kind of genre and/or novel I would usually read for pleasure. The combination of crime and sci-fi is quite well handled and interesting however, and it wasn't too heavy on sci-fi references to technology which I normally find a huge irritation and a turn off when trying to get into sci-fi novels. The ideology behind the text so far is perhaps the most interesting and engaging part, I loved the socialist ide...
Young Adult / FATE: Chapter 1 - Part 1
Firstly for something you wrote at 13 that is pretty good, the characters are well defined and although there isn't much description in terms of setting it is made up for by the narrative voice. I genuinely felt pity for the girl talking about her dead father as it was dealt with in a very sensitive way. One sentence I had a slight problem with was 'I both ask and scream at the same time.' I think that could be phrased better somehow, as I know what you're trying to say but it just doesn't wo...
Having been to the Scottish highlands myself I can say that, that description was spot on and I found it a very relaxing meandering read, which despite the content thankfully avoided being cliche. I like how the love interest was introduced and the possibility for a continuation of the story. There was nothing particularly innovative about this short story but it was well written and relaxing to read, a possible holiday book in the not too distant future if you keep up the good work. There is...
Short Story / The Lake of Regrets
Although this piece was well written with clear characters and emotive content I wasn't blown away. Obviously this is a short story, however I feel it could go into much more depth even within the constraints of a short story. For example the fact that Jimmy is seemingly never around for christmas could be worked on more to make it more emotional and engaging, because although it is well written the dialogue is a tad cliche and cheesy and its hard to feel any emotions towards the characters. ...
Because I'm English I found this quite a cliche piece of writing in terms of the language and the suburban coming of age theme. However it is extremely well written with alot of detail which makes up for the cliche content. All in all it was an engaging read with a forboding sense that something bad is going to happen without revealing all, which keeps the reader interested.
