I’m a single mom of 5 children, one of whom passed away 6 years ago. My children are my life, as they are our futures, and I take that responsability VERY seriously.
BUT, I also have my own life and interests and what I’ve submitted here is that part of me that is “Not ur Ordinary Suburban Mom.”

Ok, this week has been hectic for me with all 4 kids, a tummy virus, sinus infection, no sleep and the start of kindergarten! [Unlike a *certain* Daddy here I did not cry like a baby when my daughters went off to kindergarten, though I wanted to.] I always thought I'd be the Mommy hiding outside the classroom, peeking in the window to be sure they didn't miss me. It was such a special day for all of us too. My daughters went off to pre-k through the school district last year and they even rod...

Hmmm, what has surprised me the most?? That's a tough one! I think a few things: 1. that a person can actually survive & function on so little sleep! 2. How resilient children really are ;-) 3.how strong & assertive I've become b/c of them 4. My fierce protectiveness and absolutely UNCONDITIONAL love for them 5. how fascinated & overjoyed I am at each little thing (and the big things too!) that they do 6.how quickly I got over being grossed out by throw-up and poop painting...... 7. How goofy...

I’m not your “ordinary “ suburban mom. I don’t have a husband, I don’t have a lawn service, I don't have a maid or a nanny. I don’t have 2.3 kids or a dog. I don’t even have a DVD player in my minivan- just stale French fries from Mickey D’s, Krispy Kreme donut crumbs, flat soda and a stroller. I have 5 kids and one of them is dead. I have an ex-husband, an ex-boyfriend, ex-friends and 2 cats- one of them is dead too. I have triplets, not twins, can you get that thru your head?? My kids aren’t...

His hands are rough and calloused yet well-manicured and gentle. They have seen hard work, heartache and hope. His hands are powerful: they have soothed, struggled, created, caressed and soared. His hands can do anything. They have captivated me.

I like the images, the choice of words and the slight feeling of longing that is evoked, "remember, remember",like a plea.... I'm not sure if I can clearly understand the picture being painted though. But I like it.

interesting. It makes you stop and think. It's not about nature per se, but it could be- if you read the note about a really cool sunset. I like the rhymes.

I like this! The last line especially grabs the reader! It's unexpected but very tender and true. My first 2 children were born prematurely and by emergency c-section so I didn't get that " first night" with them. It's a lovely poem.
