Amateur.
I like music (piano, violin, cello), I love languages (French at the moment, possibly Swedish in a year’s time), and I want an Irish wolfhound (as a pet). And I’d love to meet a real babel fish. Perhaps I’ll find a Vogon and read it poetry in the restaurant at the end of the universe, at table 42, all ready with cream of mouse soup. Lovely. Tristram Shandy could accompany us! And then I’ll find some vodka to down the pills I brought along and realise in my little head that my consciousness will be no more.

How despressing. I prefer Monty Python.

This occasional bishop and part-time preacher
Of fake heretic God(s) must love the confessions,
Listening intently to this faithless creature
That is me, joking in all His contradictions. I’m off, mea culpa, to meet some blue-eyed boy,
Grant me my cleanliness, Mister Aphrodite,
Our tears are full of eyes for a beautiful toy,
And seemingly sorry for your Lord Almighty. “You’re as sinless as cod in a city of fish,
Mostly like the rest of them, dying for some wish:
 Absolution, you...

Criticism / Language?
Version 1

There has been quite a few criticisms on the state of the English language on Urbis recently (at least I suppose so!). I agree with them, that grammar and vocabulary and language in general is being ignored, by angsty teenagers with no passion for accurate writing, and revile those who warn them against improper language use (ill for I'll, id for I'd, for example). I have to agree with the fact that language is sublime: it is a mode of expression, but however one expresses onself, it is alway...

There goes May. There goes the lad from Saint-Lô sailing to New Zealand in his catamaran to find his girlfriend. A wave crashes his pan, he’s eating crêpes soaked in seawater, and by the time he gets there, she’s with someone else. Now you, we’ll have stories for you; wander and wonder through spring’s everlasting green, summer’s endless dream, autumn’s titian gleam, and winter’s coldest snow queen. Lucky you haven’t a mirror to piece together, only your heart to gather; ‘tis midsummer, my la...

Shake him to the drowsy ground, tug him home to me, He has had too much to drink, just enough to say: I love you ever so much, I wish you could stay, - This sanguine-seeped bitter heart till eternity. In this lonely time you soon forgot your lines, Watching him writhing in his sleeping rehearsal For a future life, as Beelzebub's vassal To the so-called moral world, whose gods gave them signs. I'll hug him when you're gone, his fright might run away, Then we shall wait for God, who hates us in...

Journal, Diary, & Blogging / What People Are Made Of
Thoroughyl enjoyable. I liked the introduction, which made me read on (I'm a fervent atheist). I felt, however, that it lost its way towards the middle, where your personal part comes in. It plays a large part in this piece, but it seems to digress a little too much - I was half-wondering "what next?", and was rewarded by a finish which did not say "oh god not another rambler". This was very satisfying. Although not rounding off what the introduction promised, it made a very general point whi...
Short Story / Foliage
I can't begin to comment on this unless I find the right comparison - it reminds me of a certain writing style, which unfortunately escapes me. Short, concise - clarity, so rare. It was... beautiful. The impression that a myriad of adjectives were being used was strong. I have not dissected it as one would perhaps a poem, but I will say here that it is considerably well considered for a piece of short prose, i.e. the progression of ideas is well thought out. The dialogue at the end was a suit...
Journal, Diary, & Blogging / In the Darkness
I wasn't sur ehow to rate the criteria. The images are - the best verb I can find - jettisoned to the reader. Thrown out, literally. Not haphazardly, mind - the feeling is adequately conveyed as one plunging into some darkness. A problem, however, is that by reference you mean it to be an introduction: this is difficult to review since anything written here may imply something else to follow. The second person is hence hard to place, but I reckon all in all it could make a lot of sense. Keep ...
I disagree with homosexual marriage as well, but there is also a scientific argument (for both sides) in that evolution led humans to reproduce effectively (controversial due to the wastefulness of sex; energy and sperm are both wasted in extraordinary amounts), and hence homosexuality itself should have just been an aberration of nature. However, technically, there exists an argument that evolution, in an effort to stem the growth of humanity (the overpopulation of the world, which I think i...

Quotes / I Alone
It's rather like the passage in the Matrix where Morpheus opens the door for Neo, but tells him, "I can only show you the door, but you have to choose to walk through it." However large the step, or awkward the setting, ye, 'I' must start it, and start it alone; to achieve a goal, one must first set a goal, and to set a goal, one must first goad oneself to trust in oneself to start that mission. Ouch, how lovely life can be.
