I am an unpublished author/poet, who has always written as a way of venting my thoughts and feelings, and considered my writings very personal and private.
Now, however, I feel the need to come out of the “writers’ closet” and open myself to critiques of strangers.

She feels the push to move forward, not look back, and to heal. People tell her to "get on with life", or "Pull your socks up", or "Stiff upper lip, girl". Of course, she knows that they only mean well, and are all friends and/or family that know and love her dearly. That is the problem, sometimes, as she tends to wear her heart on her sleeve and give it away much too easily. She has lost her love. A very long time ago. Only it was just today that she realized who she loved, who loved her, how he loved her, and what it has cost her in self-esteem, self-worth, and a lifetime of relationships. Prior to crying out her eyes, she would now describe the stillness in her heart as "the silence of the lambs", or a rabbit's scream. During her sobbing time, she would now explain it as an endless sorrow, a stripping of the meat from her rib-bones, while they remain inside her...

The meter of this poem is well adhered to, and the meaning flows smoothly. The only thing that confused me was the title, as "Our Grandfathers" initially made me think that the poem would be one to which most people could relate (the pronoun, "our" does denote a familiarity). Otherwise, I enjoyed the work, and rate it as an 8.
