Because it seems, at least in my personal experience, that self-centered people always rely on or use others for emotional, financial, or moral support.  It’s almost like they are so utterly consumed with themselves that they can’t function properly.  They want everyone to do everything for them.  As I’ve said before though, this is based on personal experience, so maybe it’s too specific to be applied to people in general.
