Poetry / A Message Left By The Tennent Of Room 6 In Building 2
Orphaned on my doorstep this morning
In a box with a small white towel wrapped around it
Was a small kitten
White with tiny black ears and beady blue eyes
The cutest little thing
Abandoned and afraid
She couldn’t have been more than a few weeks old.
She probably missed her mother
And was alone for the first time in her life
I took her in because I know that feeling
Being left on your own, still trying to make sense of life
I too had been abandoned at the doorsteps of the real world
Left to vend for myself
I gave her shelter, and gave her food
In return she gave me hope
Something to fill this lonely room with
So thank you, kind stranger
Whoever you may be
For leaving Hope outside my dorm
Know that, although I may never meet you
We are connected
Through the kitten you did not want
I wrote this to let you know that she’s okay
And that I’m okay
Just in case you cared
