Some people are just too stupid to realize how intelligent they really are.

I have ssen this quote on this site before. Whether it was from you or someone else, I cannot say. Very wise, whoever came up with it originally.

This is so true. I’ve always noticed how the most intelligent people can really lack common sense.  I think what they don’t understand is the value of their intelligence.  Sometimes smarts and insight just don’t seem to be in style.  Wasted intelligence is certainly a greater tragedy than plain ignorance.

The truth of what you’re saying is easy to see because we’ve all known people like this, but your choice of words is confusing.  Not knowing one’s intelligence is a function of ignorance, lack of self knowledge, or at worst, delusion and mental illness.  None of this is being ‘too stupid.’  ’too ignorant’ would mean much more to me, but ‘too stupid’ sounds confused and not accurate in my experience.

Your quote is a contradiction within itself unless it is meant to be ironic.

As an educator, I can agree.  The potential is there…but sometimes the motivation and optimism are not.
Well said.

An interesting twist on the old maxim “wisest is he who knows he does not know”. You have conveyed a paradox clearly and succinctly, and hit the nail on the head with reference to the limits of perception so many people have when referring to themselves.
