Try To Understand
A sonnet for my lady
as I sit and watch you sleep.
Inside you hold our baby
it needs both you and me
I know that you are scarred
don’t know what to do.
Know that I’m prepared
to a loving life with you.
Our parents will adjust
and accept us for who we are.
In time they’ll learn to deal with it
for lives they can’t control.
I’ll always stand beside you
hold you safe and tight.
Build a life completely new
construct it just for you.
When our child is all grown up
can we accept the change?
We can only offer our deepest love
and try to understand.
