Poetry / The Serpent
The Serpent
The serpent’s coil unloaded with all it’s force,
Showing no remorse,
It’s venom spread like the wind,
A whirlwind , underpinned
With supernatural strength and speed,
Destroying every single seed,
That once was planted with genuine hope,
That will not cope,
When the serpent takes it ’s biggest bite.
No long awaited call,
No note before the fall,
No body ever found,
No warning light or sound,
An exploding fist just punched my face,
Leaving only bruised and battered truth,
And wasted tears as proof.
Not even a size 14 steel toe-capped kick,
Would do the trick,
When landed full on between the eyes,
Freeing lies, and family ties,
The damage left,
Me blinded by reality.
Take the worst moment in your life,
Cut it out with a rusty knife,
Remember it in its full frontal sledge hammer way,
And let it roll, just press play,
And then rewind, just press play,
And then rewind, just press play,
And then rewind, just press play.
Welcome to your groundhog day.
Every problem has its owner,
The most confident showman,
The most damaged loner,
Every angry word spoken out of turn,
Every lesson you must learn,
Every effigy you burn,
Every bad look you’ve ever stared,
Every risk you’ve ever dared,
Every moment you have shared,
Every argument you’ve lost,
Every time you count the cost,
Every bad taste in your mouth…
