Poetry / Why I Love the Rain
we’re walking together
home from school
the city streets are full
full of cars, people, strangers
bright lights, loud noises, and other scary things that i rather not mention
but it’s okay because i have protection
i have you
as we walk our arms once in a while
bump into each other
but no one complains
then suddenly a drop hits my glasses
i look up, and the sky begins to pour
“did you bring an umbrella?” you ask
“nope” i reply as i pull on my hoodie
“you’re so hopeless” you say
as you open your umbrella
holding it high enough for both of us
it’s so relaxing, so safe, so warm
when i walk with you
i want to say that
but it’s too weird
“come on hurry up, its really raining now” you say
you grab my hand softly
pulling for me to hurry up
we reach a cross walk
“don’t walk” it reads
so we wait
but you still hold onto my hand
you glance at me
with a smile pulling at your lips
and i glance back, hoping i’m not blushing
“walk” the sign now changes
and so we walk
still holding hands
we walk
through the city streets
full of cars, people, strangers
bright lights, loud noises, and other scary things that i rather not mention
but it’s okay because i have protection
i have you
