Journalism / 4Ft Fingers - New Beginnings Of Old Stories - Album (Not On Your Radio Records)
About 5-6 years ago, 4Ft Fingers were in demand. Signed to Golf Records, headline tours and support slots with Dead Kennedys and the like. Now, after an apparent demise and a few years out of the spotlight, they return with their fourth full-length offering. Another 12 songs of much the same pop-punk that saw them reach those heights. And that’s probably the problem. It is the same. Nothing really makes or breaks the album, and it does kind of blend in with their back catalogue. ‘The Tale Of Benjamin Lloyd’ sounds like an English version of a Dropkick Murphys song done soberly. ‘A Place I Call Home’ is Bouncing Souls minus the balls and ‘Thick As Thieves’ kills that trusted component known as the na-na-na singalong. Maybe pop-punk has evolved since 2002-3, but 4Ft Fingers don’t stand out from the crowd anymore – if they indeed did beforehand. If you want a reliable and consistent CD of British pop-punk, then this isn’t bad at all, but there’s far better out there.
