Journal, Diary, & Blogging / Finding an agent (Analysis)

I sent a play off to an agent who I looked up in the yellow pages, and called up and contacted. I told them a little about myself, and they sounded interested and told me to send them a play.

So I did, did the poor man copyright thing, and sent it registered mail.  Now the agency seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth and no longer the professional greeting asks you to leave a message, only the voice of the woman to whom I talked with.

What to do about this I really don’t know, and I haven’t heard anything back from them.

Any advise, and any suggestions on approaching agents and what to look out for as for trouble shooting and making sure you don’t get scammed.

Hope to hear from you guys soon…

I got scammed as a teenager by a man who I shared much of my writing with, he copywrote it, and sold it as lyrics.  Years later, I hear it on the radio, and kick myself every time I hear it.
So, forego the poor man’s copywrite.  If you’re trying promote a piece to an agent, it needs to be Ironclad All-You.  Go the extra step.  A good piece will lose none of it’s relevance in the time and expense it takes to officially copywrite an item.
Next time, ask for references or associates of the company you can call to verify their past work or clients, current projects, etc, to make sure they’re legit.
Hope everything works out.
