I’m flattered to know that you think this line was taken from some publication or e-mail but it is not the case. It came to me when a friend of mine was consoling me when I was feeling down as I was writing my dissertation. My friend was berating me at the time because I kept on insisting to do so many things all at once. He was worried that I may get sick or compromise the quality of my work should I insist on my current work habit. True enough things went from bad to worse.

I would write it thus:
Set your sights on too many things,
and you won’t end up with anything!
Only because I like the rhyme. :)

Well you just put one of my weaknesses in words that are just perfectly precise.
I just have so many ideas when I write that I can never accomplish writing ‘a’ story. It’s quite disappointing actually. Good work, though I don’t think it will be memorable.
I totally agree with this quote, because when people take many things to do at once, they become some kind of lost.. they want to do this and that, they “run” from one to another thing. So because person is “running”, the things he does lose their quality and their value. In person’s head is some kind of mess then and he can’t concentrate on the things he does more than he could if he did one thing. And that’s why there are more mistakes..
This definitely rings true for me.
I have so much I want to do, and I try to do it (or rather take it all in) at once, that I get overwhelmed and distracted and nothing ever gets done.
I learned the hard way too!
It sounds like a “word of zen” its simple yet powerful in its own right.
I think this could be in a publication of quotes – followed by being underneath everyone’s emails :)
Keep sharing!
I enjoy this quote because it is very true. It will make one think and say one thing at a time and one day at a time. That is what it conveys to me.
I’d say it’s a dim outlook only to be achieved by someone with a pessimistic outlook. I would find that if you set your eyes on a lot of goals you’re bound to achieve something of value, something has to happen.
The impression it made on me is that if you try to do too many things, especially at once, you are doomed to failure for there is only so much time in a day or so much energy one has and certain things require more attention and demand more skill than others. One can’t be good at everything, it’s impossible though I guess one can try, but it sets one up for failure at some of the things. Interesting quote.
I agree with this quote 100 percent. To accomplish things, one must set individual goals that can be reached. Doing this… will no doubt bring more happiness and get you further in life.
The message is clear. I think the second part of the quote could be more idiomatic (to be more parallel with the first part).
