Quotes / Six word memoir I

I don’t see why you can’t wonder and take notes at the same time.  I was using the statement “Whilst taking notes” as a metaphor for writing poetry.

How do you define wandering?  To me wandering is to travel with no goal in mind, no care in the world, no worries.  You are just there and then somewhere else with no care.  All the while enjoying the experience of just being.  If you focus on anything other than that, then you have a goal, worry, or care – don’t you?  Then you are traveling, moving, traversing, but definitely not wondering.  

From a person so picky about using the word “whilst” I would think you would see a difference.

Ok, I agree with most of your definition of wandering, but are you saying the act of wandering negates one’s ability to do anything else? Can you not eat, sing or daydream while you wander? This piece was not about wandering with the goal of taking notes, I used “taking notes” in reference to the inspiration one gets while wandering and that is a by-product of the journey. I also think you are taking “taking notes” too literally, do you not mentally take note as you travel even if it is done subconsciously? I guess we probably have different ideas about wandering, which is a good thing as variety is the spice of life. I know that I enjoy wandering and am perfectly able to get inspiration as I do so and I’m not going to get hung up on one bad review when the majority of people understood the point I was trying to make.
Oh and as for me being “picky” about my word usage, I would hope all writers were picky about the words they use, words are our artistic medium therefore it is important we use the ones that we feel most closely suit the emotion/scene we are trying to convey.

Exactly my point. The word wandering is not the best word here and you should be more picky about it.  And to answer your question, no you can not be doing something else while wandering, because as soon as you do, you are no longer wandering.  You doing that thing which is focused and deliberate.  Wandering is never focused and deliberate – that is essence of it.  It is just carefree and careless. Yes you CAN be inspired by wandering but to “wander” in order to force inspiration to happen is no longer wandering.

We are writers… so learn your craft well and understand the nuances of words – not all are interchangeable and they have fine borders which allow you to play with meaning and intent.

Wandering doesn’t help this piece at all – it destroys the intent – or maybe the word “taking notes” is wrong then?

Thank you for your review. I personally don’t agree with the suggestion you have made regarding the use of the word “ranging” as I don’t believe it express’s the feeling that I was trying to convey. This was supposed to be a fluid piece and I feel that your suggestion to the structure is list like and not really what I was aiming for.

Thanks for the review. I am English so thank you for excusing me. I was using the statement “Whilst taking notes” as a metaphor for writing poetry as most of my work is elaborated “notes” about my life. The whole piece is about my creative process, how I live my life and how it in turn inspires me. I guess some people might find this piece impersonal but to me it explains a lot about my life as a writer.
