Flash Fiction / A Short Life, So Long (Analysis)

I like it, but I think the title may be “cheating” since it’s required to understand the piece.  I haven’t read many six word stories so I may be off on that.  I like the imagery though.

Interesting. This works for writers AND artists.

I’m not sure if Smith will be as tolerant of your use of “they” in correlation to your title, but I definitely see the importance of keeping the title with it!

Maybe work on a second version just in case? One where you incorporate some form of the word “pictures” instead of they?

A very unassuming piece – in a good way. It’s a piece that doesnt take itself too seriously and isnt OVERLY deep, but still gives the reader enough to think about to make it an enjoyable memoir. Furthermore, it’s so true; it DOES take a lot of practice to allow the images in your own head to flow into the minds of observers – every writer can relate to this.

My only issue with the piece is that, without the heading, the piece doesnt really make sense. WITH the heading it’s great, but without it, it sort of falls flat.

Thank you; as to your one contention, I have been working in flash fiction and Drabble for quite some time, and I worked with P.H. Madore, who developed the genre Pinhead Fiction out of the Hemmingway story, Baby shoes.  For sale.  Never been worn.

One thing that I have found time and again in drabble and pinhead is that to completely express the story, the title must act both as a name and as a part of the story.  It’s not necessarily a heading as it is a title, and it is intended to always accompany the piece.

Ahh ok, well I guess that’s definately a good way to get as much out of the 6 word limit as possible… I’m just wondering if SMITH mag will be publishing the piece WITH the title or not… If they’re JUST publishing the piece and not the title, this might have a little bit of a hard time… so I hope for your sake that this is not the case… but, still, good luck (sincerely)

this is well done. every artist must face rejection, it’s the great artists that use it to fuel their passion even more. this sentiment is captured nicely.

I’m still not too sure about these things, but its to the point.

I don’t really get why you used pens and pencils to open the flash fiction. The ending was alot better though

I used them because that’s where I began writing and drawing, that’s where I began to express my creativity.  I moved on to word processors and computer animation; but I still use those articles in which I am rooted.

A pen on a page makes a shadow of ink; makes a line, makes a word, makes an image in my mind.  An image I draw on a page, with a pen.
