I think the point of the statement is in its irony. Sometimes we have to be honest with ourselves even if were not being honest with others. Admit your dishonesty. Even if your doing it for the ‘right’ reasons, you have to admit your doing it. I think it’s kind of deep especially in its simplicity.

Just six words have encapsulated the entirety of social norms and most friendship.

This makes me think of those people who ask for an “honest” opinion but in reality they expect an compliment.

Try being truly honest to them, and they’ll retort with “Well look at your __ I like it and I don’t care what you think!” Being honest is the fastest way to lose all of your friends.

I suppose no one can be completely honest without appearing to be a cynical (and hypocritcal, as you have your own flaws) jerk.

So just say what’s socially normal and keep your friends.

But to be honest, this is one of the best quotes I’ve seen. (Really)

Hm….makes me think. Some people would rather someone lie to them then just tell the truth. Honestly lying. It’s hard to describe, but it makes sense, at least for me.

Happy New Year!

this is the best six word memoir I’ve read so far. Definitely a keeper. Congrats on the random stroke of genius.

I like this a lot! Can be taken in many directions.  I see it as what applies in an employee reporting to upper managment or a private in the army reporting to a superior.  You give them the answer they want, then make it true.  Doubt that was the intent of your writing, but that is the beauty of this quote.  Leaves a lot of room for the readers interpretation.

I like it. Very simple, yet it conveys so much. Some of the biggest truths in life are extremely contradictory and this seems to portray that fact.

It’s alright, I guess.  Kind of an oxymoron.
