Poetry / Idle Hearts
See it’s sad to know that such is real,
We kill to touch and live to feel.
I love the sense the same as each,
The need of lust we learn to teach.
Such yearnings burn a fire hot,
We’ve kept it warm for what it’s not.
Attractions grow within the mind,
Decided thoughts provoke and find.
I know the sin is in me still,
Both eyes with heart condemn this will.
We’re forced to fight what always fills,
All love is found and romance kills.

The cadence of this poem is excellent. I like the juxtaposition of “We kill to touch and live to feel.” To me, that conveys that “touch” is driven by thoughts and desires more base… we want to touch what is off limits. The word “kill” here also obviously conjures up violent crimes, in this case sex crimes. Whereas “feel” in this sentence conveys purer thoughts and hope… when we feel love for someone, we want to live and we have joy and hope. “I know the sin is in me still”... so… is the subject of this poem admitting that he/she leans more toward touching and killing? I could not figure out the last sentence… why does romance kill? Because it can be unrequited, leading to thoughts of forcefully taking it? Nicely done!
