Poetry / Drift Away
Once again I’m drowning
With these waves pounding
Can I make it through this day
I close my eyes and drift away
My whole body begins to strain
As I open my eye to the rain
My body is so numb from the cold
What chills me the most is the sight I behold
The most massive of waves I see its crest
And I know that this will lay me to rest
But just before gravity broke the water’s ark
That dragged me down to the dark
The sun started to drift away
I had almost made it through this day
But all I feel is this suffocating water
As I swim my veins boil hotter
In this darkness everything looks the same
Making it impossible to know from where I came
I realize escape was always an illusion
As I tumble around in this mass confusion
My heart stops its sounding
For once again I’m drowning
And for the last time today
I’ll close my eyes and drift away
