Yeah this one confused everyone, and I can’t for the life of me see why. I initially thought it was too simple and silly to put up here. Thanks a bunch for your thoughts.

I do not get it.  The quote needs to be more clear.

Is the antecedent for “it” here “life”? It seems to me that the layers would be belted – unless of course you meant that one should hit (belt) life in the stomach for giving one layers. But what’s so bad about layers? Definitely thought-provoking and, well, just good fashion sense.

No, you got it. Metaphor for life – layers bad; belting it good. Layers make you look fat, no? So in this case it’s a bad thing (but of course not always0. If you belt it, you create a wasit, thus skinny again lol.

You’ve kind of got a mixed metaphor going on here. I eventually got the gist of what you were saying, but it took a couple of read throughs. “Layers” and “belt” don’t often go together, at least in my neck of the woods. Whatever you put in the first part should match up with the second part. For example, “When life is a pair of loose trousers, belt it at the waist.”

I get that now, but it’s confusing. And looking over some of the other comments, there’re a handful of others that share that feeling. There’s potential here, don’t get me wrong, but it needs more punch; it should hook people right away.

I think it’s a good quote like the one that inspired you. It’s definitely something I could see a girl saying who loves clothes. LOL, because when someone says the lemon one…I always come back with “I will throw that lemon back in your face and tell you to make your own damn lemondade.” But you really can’t say that with your quote..so well done.

That’s a good quote. Maybe you should have entered that “about your life contest.” I found it humorous, and perhaps a good metaphor that I may use eventually.

Haha, nice. I suppose this is alright. But I’ve had a friend who has always said what’s the point of a belt if not to hold the pants up. So I don’t know :)
