Children's / The Circus (Analysis)

One day a little girl named Emma was riding the bus home from school. She was just about to stop at her house when she saw her Mother standing there waiting for her. She said to herself "Mommy always stands outside when she has a surprise for me!" What could it be? It’s not my Birthday today she thought. The bus stopped and she was so excited. She jumped off the bus and ran to her Mother. They both smiled and gave each other a great big hug. "How was your day?" her Mother asked. "It was good Mommy but why are you waiting for me?" Emma asked back. Her Mother said "Emma, we are going to the Circus!" Emma then let out a yell of excitement. But then Emma realized something and put on a long face. Her Mother said to her "Why the long face?" She then replied "I ‘m scared of the clown’s." Her Mother said to her with encouragement "Don’t be scared sweety, they are nice to everyone and they make people laugh and smile." Emma shrugged her shoulders and started to walk to the house. She went up to her room thinking about what her Mother had said to her. She decided that she was going to wear her favorite outfit. She looked for her pink shirt with her name in sparkles and her favorite pants with the stars on the pockets. She wanted to shine with all the lights around her.

Her Mother then shouted up to her "Let’s go Emma or we will be late!" She ran down the stairs so excited. They got in the car and started on their way. The whole time she was worried about the clowns. "I hope they don’t come near me. I will have to stay away from them." she thought to herself. Just she saw the Big Circus Tent. As they pulled in she was looking out the window at all the people, rides and she could hear the elephants. She was so amazed with everything she totally forgot about the clowns. On the way to the Big Tent they got some cotton candy, her favorite was bubble gum. Holding her Mother’s hand and carrying her cotton candy in the other, they headed for the Big Tent. They found their seats in the front row. The show was great and she was having so much fun. Then all of a sudden, Louie the Clown had made his way over to her. Emma quickly hid behind her Mother. "Emma, it’s okay, he just want’s to make you a balloon animal." her Mother said. Emma quickly replied "NO, Im scared!" Louie then smiled at her Mother and went on his way to another group of kids. Emma sat back in her seat and watched he made the balloons for the other kids. She was sad, but she was too scared to get one. Her mother then stood up and walked over to Louie the Clown. "What is she doing?" Emma thought. Her Mother then turned around and had a balloon in her hand. Emma noticed that the balloon had the shape of a dog, which was her favorite animal. Her Mother sat down next to her and handed her the balloon. Emma then hugged and kissed her Mother. She thought to herself "I have the best Mommy in the world."

Well the Circus was now finished and they started to head back to the car. When they started to leave, Emma then noticed Louie the Clown. She stopped and stared at him not realizing that her Mother kept walking. Louie saw Emma and smiled at her. She got so scared she went to reach out for her Mother’s hand but it was not there. She looked and saw her Mother just ahead of her. She started to run but then she tripped over her own feet and landed on her balloon. "OH NO!" she cried. She had popped the balloon. What was she going to do now? She started to cry. Just as she was whipping the tears from her eyes, she saw a hand reach out to her. This was not her Mother’s hand she thought. She looked up and realized that it was Louie the Clown’s hand. She stayed very still for a moment, making sure not to move. Louie than said to her with a big smile "It’s okay, don’t be scared, I will make you a new balloon." She grabbed his hand and he helped her up on her feet. He then reached in his pocket and pulled out a few balloons. He started blowing them up and twisting them all up together until it made a pink doggie shape. Her Mother came over and asked "Are you okay Emma?" She smiled at her mother to let her know she was fine. "What do you say to the nice clown?" said her Mother. Emma looked up at the clown and said to him "Thank you." He smiled down at her and said "Your welcome"

At that point Emma was not scared of the clowns anymore for she believed that her Mother was right. Clowns are not scary, they are funny, colorful and as nice as can be. On their way back to the car she held her balloon tight. On the way home her Mother asked "Did you have fun at the Circus?" She turned to her Mother and replied with great excitement "YES, I did and Thank You Mommy!" From that time on, she was no longer afraid of clowns.
