Introduction
You could hear the sound of the animals in the jungle. The noise was so relaxing to her. Others would be scared to hear it. The sound of birds chirping. The wolves howling. The lions and cheetahs roaring over there territory. Everything was in harmony. She ran to the circle. Where all the animals laid with their mates. Immediately the lions ran to her. Licking her face. She laughed. They loved her laugh. It was always in harmony. She looked around her jungle. Her kingdom was up ahead. She could smell the food the servants where cooking. She could see the hungry looks on the animals. She smiled.
“ Are we hungry already?” she asked. She laughed when they all spoke in there ways at the same time. She took the small bag from her belt. she took a small dose of dust and blew. the food of every single animal were in front of them. They immediately started to eat like what they were. She smiled as she went into the jungle to her kingdom. She walked past the village. She waved to the people she’s known for years. They greeted her back. Some the little ones went up to her. They handed her each a wild flower. She took smiling.
“ Thank you.” she said. The girls smiled and ran giggling back to there mothers. She smiled as she went to her home. She was greeted with the sweet smell of food. The servants all smiled as she walked in. she ran up the stairs to change into something more decent. She grabbed a plain white dress from her wardrobe. She went to the mirror. Brushing her long wavy brown hair. Her crystal blue eyes looked pleased. Tonight she would be granted the key to the treasures. She smiled. She was now going to be the keeper. She ran down the stairs. On the way. She grabbed a white lily from one of the vases and plucked it into her hair. She walked downstairs. Everyone must be already at the ceremony. She quickly ran barefoot towards the circle again. The village was empty. She quickly ran until she reached the clearing. Everyone was there waiting for her. She walked slowly down the aisle that was waiting for her. All the animals were lined up. She smiled as she saw the keeper before her. She was wearing a white dress like her. Her long white hair was pulled back. As she stood in front of the keeper. She could feel all eyes on her.
“ Princess Adelaide. You have been chosen to be the next keeper for the treasures.” the keeper said. Adelaide smiled. The keeper grabbed a bowl. She could smell the oil. It was a honey scent. Mixed with lavender. The keeper dipped her index finger in it. She made a shape of an eye on Adelaide’s forehead. Adelaide shivered. She couldn’t believe this was happening. She watched the Keeper grab the key from her neck. She smiled at her granddaughter.
“ Princess Adelaide. Do you accept the responsibilities. To the treasure. Do you honor us. With your words that nothing will happen to the treasures. As long as you are the keeper?” she asked. Adelaide stared at her grandmothers crystal blue eyes.
“ I Princess Adelaide. Accept my responsibilities of being the new Keeper of the Treasures.” she said with pride and truth to her words. The Keeper smiled as she placed the amulet of the eye around Adelaide’s neck. There were cheers everywhere. The animals also cheered in there own way. Adelaide smiled. She looked at the treasures. She hugged her grandmother. When they all heard it. The sound of a crack in the air. The wind began to pick up. The animals all began restless. They all new what was coming. Across the kingdom. A black smoke came towards them. The Keeper turned to her granddaughter. Her eyes showed she was frighten. Everyone waited for her command. She was still the Queen of the land. The animals where even quiet. The Queen stared at her people, and then at her granddaughter. The new keeper. She had no choice but to show them the fear in her eyes.
“ Run!” she screamed. And everything was lost.
Sahara
Sahara couldn’t believe her day. Not only did she get wake up at the crack of dawn. She was still late to first period. At least she was able to pick out a cute outfit for her day. A light green gypsy skirt. With a light pink strapless shirt. Since the school didn’t have a dress code. Some girls dressed like Sahara dressed. Classic with style, or some dressed like sluts. Sahara just couldn’t at all see why they dressed like that. She walked down the hall to see one of the sluts up against the lockers. She was flirting with one of the football players. Sahara couldn’t help roll eyes. She walked into her class. Ms. James looked up and shook her head. She pointed to Sahara’s desk. Sahara took her seat. Some of the class snickered. Sahara ignored them. She knew it was because she was saving the towns old library. It was founded eighty years ago, and the Mayor was trying to build a new mall over it. Sahara was able to get a hundred and fifty signs, but now all they needed was someone to buy the old property. Unfortunately for her. No one wanted it. She tried t ask her dad. A famous lawyer, but he said he didn’t want to waste his money on something un valuable. There was a reason her mom divorced him. She signed as she turned to look out the window. She could just make out her features in her reflection. Her golden brown hair was down to her waist. She could make out her light green eyes. She looked exactly like her mom. Maybe that’s why her dad never visited her anymore. Sahara knew what the real reason was. It was her new step mother that wouldn’t let him visit her. Just thinking about her made Sahara’s blood boil. She was also a lawyer like her dad. Only she was a prosecutor. Her dad was a defense attorney. Which was why her mom feel for her dad. Her mom believed in helping out the innocence. She was the reason why Sahara wanted to save the old library. Since the age of six. Sahara has helped baby animals. Recycled. She even participated in save the rain forest parade. Saving the old library was going to be a challenge. She remembered hearing her mom arguing over the phone with the mayor himself.
“ That is a national historian. You can’t tare it down. To build a mall!” she screamed into the phone. Sahara was standing by the doorway listening to her mom’s every word.
“ there will be protesters.” her mom said. Sahara watched her mom face turn a bright red, and she hung up.
“ Mom?” Sahara said as she walked in. her mom sat down on one of the chairs. She took her glasses off.
“ I’m sorry Sahara. I didn’t mean for you to hear that.” her mom said. Sahara went inside the cabinets. She took out the kettle. She made her moms soothing tea.
“ Thanks hon.” her mom said. Sahara smiled. Her mom told her about the library. Sahara just like her mom was angry. She couldn’t believe they would tear it down. Just to build another mall. How many did they have now. Three?
“ Don’t worry mom. We’ll save the library.” she said. Only now. She has no idea how to save it. That’s why she was late for school. She had woke up early to get a head start at the old library. She walked down the street. She could hear the sounds of the birds. She smiled to herself. She turned the corner to see the old library. It was fenced up, but Sahara had made an opening to get in. She went through the fence, and up the stairs. She turned around to make sure no one was around. She was trespassing. She went around the back. One of the windows was boarded up, but Sahara was able to take the nails off. She took the boards off, and went through. The sound of her flips flops. Against the tiles. Made Sahara feel like she was on going an adventure. The inside. Was just how a library should look like. There where shelf everywhere. She went upstairs. There was a window. Where you could see the view of the whole town. It was the only window that wasn’t boarded up. Sahara had dragged one of the chairs. So she could sit. She didn’t at all mind. That it was covered in dust. She sat down and watched as the sun came up. To her it felt like magic. She could see the birds fly through the sky. Sahara always wanted to do that. To just fly into the sun. she was too busy watching the sun. she was late fro school. Now she wasn’t even listening to Ms. James lecture. She had to figure out a way to save the library. Too busy with her own problems. She didn’t notice the door open. Until the was a huge cough that made Sahara look out at the front. The principal Mr. Lowery was there.
“ Ms. James . I have a new student for you.” he said. Everyone in the class watched as the new student walked in. Sahara couldn’t help think it might be a new boy. Or another preppy girl. Who talked about being a cheerleader. She shivered at the thought. She remember the last new girl who came. She was shy at first. Sahara had invited her to eat with her. Later she found out she was really a sweet girl. She got her to join Sahara group to save the rain forest. To stop animal testing. She thought she made a new friend. Until the girl decided to become a cheerleader, and left Sahara alone. She couldn’t even remember her name. which was sad. So she turned to stare at the door. To her surprise it was a girl, but not the cheerleader type. She had long wavy brown hair. Her bangs where covering her eyes. So you couldn‘t see what color they where. She was looking down as she walked in. she was wearing a dark blue button shirt. Around it was a black lace belt. she had on dark blue jeans. Some of the boys whistled. Sahara rolled her eyes. She didn’t hear what the girls name was. She just went back to stare out the window. Not even noticing that the girl was going to sit next to her for the rest of the year.
Rayven
“ Watch it!” Rayven snapped at the new girl. The new girl just kept walking away. Rayven couldn’t help think she was a freak, but then again. She was the one wearing a tight black skirt. combat boots. Her shirt did have a lot of holes. Her make up was also black. Black lipstick. Eyeliner. Between the new girl. She was the freak. Rayven walked down the hall. To see Sahara running down the hall. She was probably trying to get more signs to save that stupid library. Rayven couldn’t help think why she was even bothering to save it. Then again. The library was pretty cool, but she was never going to tell any of her friends that, or Sahara. No. Rayven would just keep that between herself. She walked into class. To see the new girl was sitting in her seat. Everyone was talking about the girl who had her hair in her face. Some of the guys in there grade where placing a bet. Her eyes where either blue, or a dark brown. With her hair color. Some of Rayven friends said her eyes where black. Which made Rayven mad. She was the one in there school known with black eyes. Even though her eyes where just a dark brown. Her hair was also black, but the bottom tips were purple. She had her hair up with chopsticks up. She decided to give the new girl a break. So she took a seat in front of her. It was the only desk that was vacant. Rayven saw some of her friends snicker at the new girl. She glared at them. They looked away. Rayven was the leader of her friends. They knew when to back off. Rayven looked bored as she watched the Trig teacher put some problems on the board. She yawned and thought about the big party tonight. There was always a party. She wondered if her mom would be drunk again. Maybe she could sneak out without her noticing. Unless her dad calls checking in on her again. She couldn’t help feel angry at him. He did leave her mom when she was nine months pregnant with her. Then eight years later. He wants to be apart of her life. That just pissed her off. The teacher. What’s his name again? Mr. Phil’s? passed around some problem assignments. Rayven grabbed them from the girl in front of her. What’s her name again? Oh yeah Aqua. The swim team captain. She passed the last one back. Only the girl didn’t take it. Rayven turned around. The girl wasn’t staring in front of her. She was staring at the desk. Rayven couldn’t get more angry. She slammed the paper down on the desk.
“ Next time look up.” Rayven snapped. The girl just took the paper. She heard her sign.
“ Sorry.” she said softly. This made Rayven stare at her. For some reason she felt sorry for her. So she turned around. Glared at her friends and started working on the problems. When the bell rang. The new girl was the first to get up and leave. One of Rayven’s friends coughed out freak. Which made Rayven slap him.
“ Ouch. What was that for?” Kent asked. Rayven pointed at the new girl.
“ Give her a break.” Rayven said. Kent rolled his eyes.
“ She’s a freak. She doesn’t talk.” he said. Some of their friends nodded as they walked down the hall.
“ So? She is new. She’s just shy.” Rayven said.
“ I heard she was in rehab.” Bitsy said. Rayven turned to Bitsy. Out of all of them. She was the smallest. She had a boy hair cut. Which looked good on her. With her brown hair. Her eyes where a light brown, but she was wearing contacts so they were red. Rayven smiled at her little friend.
“ And how would you know that?” she asked. Bitsy smiled that smiled which meant her lips where sealed.
“ How would you know Bitsy. I heard she killed someone, and this is her first ear in school.” Kent said. Rayven rolled her eyes at her friends. Sometimes she was tired of them. Why was she friends with them again?
“ Oh Rayven. My brother said he could get us a ride. He’ll also give us some of his stash.” Kent said. Rayven smiled. She just remembered why she’s friends with them.
“ Hey new girl!” Kent yelled. Rayven punched him in the stomach. The new girl didn’t even look up. She just kept walking.
“ Man what is with her?” Bitsy said.
“ I don’t know, but I’m going to find out.” Rayven said. He friends stared at her. They had no idea why this new girl affected there friend. The truth was. Rayven didn’t know either.
‘ it’s as if I have to protect her. From everything.’ Rayven thought as she walked the opposite way from the new girl. She couldn’t at all explain this feeling, but she had to stop thinking about her. Tonight she was going to get high and wasted. Maybe then this need to protect some complete stranger would just leave her alone. She took one look behind her, and the new girl was gone. Rayven didn’t even know her name. no one did.
