Sci Fi & Fantasy / The legend and the wolf (Analysis)
‘Mikey! Hey Mikey! Little brother?!’ my big brother called to me.
I was hiding I the bushes for the beast I saw. It looked like a wolf but almost tree times bigger. We where practicing our sword techniques when we where surprised by the thing. It jumped on me and pushed me against the floor with its big weight. I was out of breath cause of the weight and the nails of the beast where burring them self in my skin. Blood was dripping out of the wounds and I was sweating but somehow I wasn’t afraid. My brother ran off to get help while I was lying on the muddy ground. The beast cried, just like a wolf. Still I wasn’t afraid. Then the strangest thing happened. My vision grew stronger and I was looking down on a boy where my nails where crushed in. I heard an other wolf cry and my vision changed; now I was looking down on a small outdoors village. People where gathered around a young man, my brother. I howled and my vision returned to myself.
‘Get away.’ I said to the wolf that was still standing on me.
Wolf turned his head a little crooked but then, like it understood me, it ran away and was joined with some other wolfs and ran of in the forest. I hided myself in the bushes. I saw the over sized wolf look one last time to me and then ran of with the others. My brother was back with some other people from the village and jelled for me. I stood straight so they could see me. My father was the first one who found me and came running, followed by my mother and brother.
‘Mikey, are you alright?’ my father asked while he hugs me.
I nodded bud I didn’t answered his hug. For some reason I changed, I felt a new strength inside me. Lingering for an opening. We walked back to the village. My dad carried me because somehow my strength was depleting me and halve way I was KO. When I wake up I heard voices from the other side of my bedroom door. It was my parents and some other villagers. I stepped out of bed a sat down next to the door so I could listen.
‘If we don’t do it there will be more attacks. The village will be left alone and all of us will go to the city. It’s the only way to make sure the people of our village will be safe. Some people will get separated but we have always been like a family so we will keep contact with each other.’ Said the voice of the village leader.
I didn’t want to go to the city. I was happy where I was. What I saw of the city sickened me.
‘It would be the cleverest thing to do. The rating of wolfs in the near area is growing larger with the day. If this go’s on for much more, they will take over of the woods.’ My father said.
I heard people agree with each other and then the village leader said.
‘Then we agree. We’ll leave tomorrow to the nearest town, there we will get some cars and we’ll separate. Everyone, I’ll miss you all and I hope you will al have good life’s and that we will meat again someday and remember that we are from an other place then the normal people and that we are different then them. Good bye.’
I went mad. Something cracked inside me and then it happened I was surrounded by a ring of black fire. It started to spread true the house. Then I saw something in the fire, a monster of some sort. It grew and then it jumped at me.
I fell out of my bed on the ground; again the same dream haunted me. What happens in that dream, happened sixteen years ago. Is was a little black haired boy with bright blue eyes by the age of six. Now I’m going to two schools. A normal university, Oxford in England and a school in the other dimension for people like me. Gifted people. In Oxford I’m learning about Mythology and I’m in a course of art. In the other dimension, called Zyllon, I’m learning to enhance my gift and with that gift my people and I am going to help the world with its darkness.
I’m twenty two now and I’m walking true the streets of Mardigon, a city in Zyllon. I was on my way to the lessons of the mind and how to control it, that was being held in the forest. There where some weird people walking around, weirder than always. Maybe they where from a different country. I entered the market area where there where even more people. I saw two hooded men sneaking away from a jelling guy. They stole something, that was sure. I opened my mind and knew my left eye turned pitch black. I could see there faces clear. It was a young man and women. The woman was my age and the guy was a year younger then me. I made a double ganger right in front of there noses and let them freeze. They looked like living statues. The real me walked to them and took whatever they stole and merged back with the fake me. I unfroze and kept walking like nothing happened. I walked to the guy that was jelling and gave him back the little statue that looked very sheep. He took it back with big delight, thanked me and gave me a reward. I gave him back the reward and continued to the forest. I reached the city gate to the eastern forest.
‘Hey you. Give us back our statue.’ A manly voice said to me.
I looked back with my gift. It where the two thieves. I ignored them and continued. A blow of air smacked me against the wall. The air was pressed out of my lungs. I bended the magic, turned to my attackers and held them against the wall with the same blow but then ten times stronger.
‘I don’t have the statue any more. I gave it back. If you want something, you need to earn it.’ I said to the guy.
There was no sight of the women until a bright ring of fire surrounded me. I thought back at that day that the black fire surrounded me and how it burned me. Fear strokes me. I felled how the flames licked at me, calling at me. Strength deep inside me came free and blew away everything in my surrounding. The flames when out and the women, now helping her sidekick, was blown away together with the guy true the wall, against the one behind that. I saw the real face of the girl. She was beautiful. She had light blue eyes and light brown sand colored hair. The guy was KO’d. He had grey eyes and dark blond hair, almost brown. I collapsed and lay down on hands and knees. Darkness was taking over me.
‘Get away.’ A familiar voice said to everyone in the area.
It was Raymon, my mentor. I felt how he made a magical seal aground me. I knew well enough what was happening. He was keeping me from harming anybody else or my self. I felt how the energy was floating out of me. The seal disappeared just like al my energy. I looked up and saw Raymon, standing towards me. The two thieves where still sitting on the ground, looking terrified. My arms where burning from the wounds the flames left for me. Raymon helped me up.
‘You should go to a doctor and after that you should lay down.’ He said.
‘No, today is an important lesson. I can’t miss it. The burns can wait and for the lesson I don’t need any energy. I’ll be fine.’ I said wile I passed Raymon.
He looked suspicious.
‘Well, okay. But afterwards you’re going to a doctor and then you rest. Tell your brother to call me when you get home.’ He said full of concern.
I rolled with my eyes.
‘Why does my brother have to know everything what happens to me? I’m old enough to take care of myself, Raymon. I’m not that helpless little boy anymore. I’m stronger now.’ I said angry.
‘I know that. But you’re brother and I we worry about you. You lost you’re parents that day, both of you. We tree are the only ones that survived that day. If it wasn’t fore those demons, everyone would still be alive.’ Raymon said whit tears in his eyes.
I looked away from him. That day changed everything. I never cried again. I became bitter and mad.
‘I know. I’ll tell him.’ I said while I walked away.
‘That’s the only thing I’m asking.’ Raymon said relieved.
I looked to the hole in the wall. The owners of the house where jelling madly at me cause I destroyed it. The thieves where gone. I ignored it all and left town to enter eastern forest. When I walked in the forest my friends, the wolves joined me to the where the rest of the class was. When we where almost there we went different ways.
‘Well, well. Look what the cat dragged in. so you decided to join us after all.’ The teacher said.
‘Just go on. You know good enough that I’m only ten minutes late. You sometimes come a halve hour to late. That makes me early.’ I said for my defense.
‘I can’t encounter that. Okay, I was saying.’
And so class continued until noon. It was as important as I thought. I learned how to keep my emotions separated while I’m using my gift. I went to the doctor, just like Raymon asked. Then on my way home, back in the normal world, I went to the park to take a short walk before class began in the university. I passed a girl that looked very familiar. She was standing against the wall.
‘You know, you where right. I went to the shop keeper where we stole the statue and apologized. You ripped that little bit of good out of me. I think I should thank you.’ She said.
Her face was as beautiful as she looked.
‘Leave it. I’m not in for the mushy stuff.’ I said harshly.
I continued my walk but then my foot froze stuck against the floor. She used ice to keep me on my spot. I shattered the ice with my power and kept walking. She did it again, this time my two feet and I almost tripped.
‘What the hell do you think you’re doing?’ I asked mad.
‘You’re an interesting guy. What’s your name?’ she asked smoothly.
‘My name doesn’t concern you. I’m going to be late if you don’t let me go.’ I said at the same tone.
‘I thought it was you. Where in the same class of Greece mythology. Is sit right behind you.’
‘I don’t care where you sit in class and why do you need to steel if you’re already Welty.’
‘For the rush. Afterwards I always give back what I steal so actually I borrow things.’
‘I could think it was something like that. The statue was to sheep.’
She melted the ice and I stopped my walk true the park and now went to collage.
‘I don’t remember your name. What was it again?’ she asked while she stood in my way.
‘Not your problem.’ Is said and passed her.
‘Michael. That’s it.’ She said.
I turned and saw she stole a paper of me. I yanked it out of her hands
‘that’s the long version. It’s just Mike.’ I said irritated while I finally continued to class.
‘We should go and take a drink some time. You can pick where.’ She said while she was following me.
‘I’m late.’ I said short.
‘You can say that again. You should have been there fifteen seconds ago.’
I gave her a look. Now she had my schedule in her hands. I took it back.
‘Well, if it’s that late already then it shouldn’t be a problem to skip.’
I turned and was planning on going home.
‘Maybe now we could get a drink?’
‘Who are you going to take with you? Ore are you planning to go alone?’ I asked skeptical.
‘You’re coming with me.’ And she dragged me along in her teleport.
When it was over, we where in front of a bar called the inner dragon. We went in and sat down on a table next to a window that looked down on the forest near by. The forest looked familiar.
‘Gus, bring us two okay.’ The women said.
‘Okay.’ The bartender said.
‘What’s you’re name. You know mine but I don’t know yours.’ I asked to start a conversation.
‘Well. Let’s see if you can find out.’ She said.
‘You asked for it.’
I opened my mind to do a simple trick whit the mind that didn’t cost any energy. The barman came.
‘Here you go, you two. Elaina, enjoy.’ He said before he knew he said the last thing.
‘Gus. We agreed that when I take somebody you don’t spill my name. No tips for you today.’ She said disappointed.
I grinned at her.
‘It wasn’t his fault. I did a little trick with his mind. I let myself disappear in his thought. He didn’t notice me.’
‘Cleaver. Now you are the one hoe’s Gonne pay all night. Tips included.’
‘No problem. I have to spend my money someday or an other.’
It was now that I noticed I still had my bag on my side. I took my wallet out of it and lay it on the table.
‘If it disappears then you’re the one I’m Gonne haunt down.’
She smiled at me and took a nip from her drink. I did the same. It was a sheep beer but it was the way I liked it. Cold and fumy.
‘Just the way I like it.’ She said after a big thug.
I started to notice that we have the same interests in drinks, rushes and other extraordinary things. It was late in the night when we stepped out of the bar. We where a bit wasted and could barely walk.
‘I think we should walk straight.’ She said with a drunken voice.
‘It isn’t our problem.’ I said also drunk.
She looked weird at me.
‘The roads crooked.’ I said while I was pointing so hard that I lost my gravity and fell down on the ground.
Elaina fell down with me. We laughed out loud. When we stopped laughing we stood up and looked eatch other in the eyes. I turned to the road.
‘How are we going back now? We can’t teleport this way.’ I said to change the subject.
Elaina looked around with her finger as her guide and pointed.
‘That way.’
I nodded and followed her into the forest. It was when we where deep inside the forest that we got lost. We found the ruins of a village. When I recognized it I was sober again. The wolfs where following us. One of them I knew very well. It was the big beast that ‘attacked’ me when I was little. Elaina shivered of the cold night and of fear for the wolfs. Apparently she was sober again to. I lay my hand on het shoulder.
‘It’s okay. They don’t hurt you. There friends.’ I said to comfort her.
She looked at me strangely.
‘How is that possible? Wolfs are one of the creatures that don’t link with humans, following the laws of the gift.’
‘They don’t link. They search friends and I’m that friend.’
‘Sounds an awfully lot like linking if you ask me.’
I didn’t hear what she said anymore. I knew the village, or at least the ruins. It was the village I used to live in. the village I called home.
‘Something wrong?’ Elaina asked.
‘I used to live here. I think it was exactly today that it happened, sixteen years ago.’
‘I’m sorry. What happened?’
‘Demons.’
She shivered again.
‘Not many people can say that they survived a demon attack.’ She said to comfort me.
I gave her a fake smile. I took of my leader jacked and gave it to her.
‘Don’t you need it?’
‘I’m wearing a sweater.’ I said reassuring.
She took on the jacket with a smile.
‘Thanks. It’s freezing out here.’
One of the wolfs howled. I looked at the one that was howling. It was the big one. I called him fang cause it where his fangs that gave me the scars on my shoulders. Now they are the base of two tats of two black wolfs that go further on my arms to a mixture of Indian and Chinese tats that tell the story about some wolf warrior. Without noticing I was touching my shoulders where the tats where. Around the burn scars on my chest I putted the black flames, blown by a black dragon. I walked closer to the ruins. Again fang howled. I looked at him. He was looking to a point in the forest.
‘Where not alone.’ I said while my vision was emerged with fangs.
I saw the strange looking men from Mardigon.
‘Come on.’ I said while I was leading Elaina to the nearest building.
‘What’s wrong?’ she whispered.
‘I don’t know for sure but those guys aren’t up to anything good.’
‘They look like Power rippers.’
I gave Elaina a look.
‘Did you thought of that on the spot or did you take a couple of seconds.’
‘You never heard of them? They go places to steal others gift. It’s a technique that looks like a seal and a mirror enchantment. After they took them, they use them.’
‘They could better name them the-gang-that-steals-and-rape-gifts gang.’
‘Look hoe’s making up things now.’
‘Shut up. There coming.’
We hided away in a corner and watched them as they took step on the village grounds. It where five of them.
‘I’m sure it was here somewhere. I’m a 100% certain.’ A guy said that was wearing leather clothing.
‘Well, we saw it on the scanner so it has to be here.’ An other, much younger voice said.
‘Look at those wolfs surrounding this place. It’s full of them.’ The first guy said.
I looked at Fang. He was hiding in the forest and I could see him. I took a quick glance true his eyes and saw the five men clearly now. I returned to my own vision.
‘We have to encounter them and stop them. As soon as we did that then we have to turn them in.’
Elaina nodded and we stepped out of our hiding place.
‘Well, well. Looks like the kids are playing here or is this make-out spot.’ One of the other guys said.
I rolled with my eyes.
‘It looks like the seniors are out on a walk.’ Elaina said to them.
Again I rolled with my eyes.
‘Stop your winning, all of you and let’s do this. They need to be punished.’ I said.
Elaina nodded and we stood in position. Then I thought of something. My power was at it limits. I’ll have to use other techniques. I took a big stick from the ground and felt if it lay good in my hands. It was a little lumpy and soft but it was the only thing I could use.
‘What are you doing? Use your gift. Else you’ll lose.’ Elaina said worried.
I gave her a dark smile.
‘You think so? Then let’s give it a try.’
There was fear in her eyes. I focused on my enemy’s and made a roll with my weapon.
‘It looks like where going to get our asses kicked by a guy whit a stick.’ One of them said.
I ignored him and ran into them. While I was running I took a glove out of my pocket and putted it on rapidly. They where trying to use their gifts, based on the elements on me but because of the special glove it didn’t work. The glove's inside was made of the skin of a dragon, the outside was simple leather. A ball of fire raced next to my ear to the enemy’s. Elaine was using her gift on them. I reached our attackers and dodged every move they tried to make on me. I gave one of them a smack to the base of his skull. An other one I gave a big slash in the ribs and one other I gave a smack against the side of his head. Elaine took out the other two from a distance. I heard a wolf howl from behind me. It turned and an other guy was midair, ready to jump on me. One of the smaller wolfs called Snitch, was right on time to intercept him. I gave Snitch a quick smile but then I was hit by something sharp right between two of my ribs. When I looked, there was a knife hanging out of my chest. I looked up and saw an other group. This time it where six of them. The wolfs attacked them. I heard screams. Two guys made it out of the massacre. One of them attacked Elaine by surprise. She fell like a bag of bones on the ground. I got mad. I felt the power that I once had sealed away, coming out again. The men ho attacked Elaine where eaten by black flame’s. The once that where attacked by the wolfs sunk away in the ground. I collapsed on my hands and knee’s. The wolfs came to comfort me. I lay down the palm of my hand on Fangs neck and rubbed it. He made a little growl of notification. I stood up and walked, exhausted, to Elaina. She was unconscious and there was a knife sticking out her stomach. She was lying in her own blood. I kneeled beside her and lifted her head. She slowly opened her eyes.
‘Am I still myself?’ she said faintly.
‘Completely.’ I said.
I only knew her for a day, even les, but it felt like I knew her for years. I lifted her from the ground and started to walk back to civilization. Back in the bar I collapsed again but this time I could not stand up anymore. The pain in my chest was severe. Gus, the bartender came running and took Elaina true a door behind the counter. The last remaining guest helped me on a bench in the corner where I lay down.
‘I’m going to get a doctor. I’ll be back in a jiffy.’ The man said.
I nodded faintly and heard the door closing. True the window viewed down on the forest I saw Fang looking true it. Everything turned dark. I passed out.
When I woke up, I was lying in my own bed. Fang was lying on the food end of the bed. Sometimes I let him sleep with me when the weather was severe. He was a loner, just like me and he only could be found with the rest of the others and smaller wolfs when there was danger. My brother and Raymon never knew that he was with me. He probably sneaked in. I tried to sit straight but I was too weak.
‘Finally, you’re awake.’ My brother said.
He was sitting on the couch in front of the window.
‘How did I get here?’ I asked.
‘You can thank Raymon for that. He followed you but he lost track when you teleported away. When he found a new trace of you, he followed it and came in that bar.’
‘Where’s Elaina? She was with me. Is she okay? What…’
‘She’s fine. She’s back at her own home. The knife didn’t left anything severe. You’re in much wears state then her.’
It was then that I noticed the breading device in my nose.
‘You’re out of school for the rest of the month.’
I sunk away in my pillow.
‘Why didn’t you come home like Raymon said? Instead, you where of to get drunk whit a girl you even don’t know. Mike, what where you thinking?’ my brother jelled.
I rolled with my eyes.
‘I was thinking: hmmm, I’m already late for class. Maybe I should go and drink a couple and afterwards I’ll go and do the whole book that you have lying in your second drawer of your nightstand.’ Something like that.’
My brother blushed. I lived with my brother, his wife and two kids. There was this one time I was searching for a book my brother borrowed. I opened that drawer and found a Kama-sutra book. That was by the age of sixteen. My brother is five years older then me. If I didn’t respect him so much I probably had kicked him in the face or some other lethal place.
‘Michael. You’re the only thing I have left of our family. If I lose you I wouldn’t have the strength to live any more.’ He said while he pinched in my shoulder.
‘I hate it when you call me that way. It sounds so cocky.’ I said irritated.
‘You should get some rest. I’ll bring some food for you later on.’
I nodded and waited until he was out. Fang was still lying on his spot. My brother didn’t say anything about him. I pulled a little on the blanked that covered me. Fang straightened his head and gave me a suspicious look.
‘Why didn’t he say something about you? He hate’s wolfs.’ I asked him.
He lifted his shoulder. He always understood what I said, somehow. It sill freaked me out. I tried to sit again but the pain was killing me so I when’d to sleep. Later that day my brother came back with some food. I didn’t eat much but it filled my stomach and that was enough. After that I went to sleep again. It when’d on like that for a couple of days until someone knocked on my door. A lady of my age came in whit a black corset and e skirt that reached her knees merely. Beneath her skirt she was wearing black combat boots that reached the down side of her knees. Her light brown hear waved and reached her shoulders. She was wearing black make-up and her nails where polished black. It was Elaina. The first and also last day I saw her she was wearing a simple Oxford school uniform and her hair was hold together in a pony tail. I was glad that they took away the breading device that morning. It would look repelling.
‘Hey there? You look tired. Maybe I should come back an other time.’ She said.
‘Don’t. It beats being alone’
She smiled and sat down on the couch.
‘I came to visit you two days ago. You where passed out, I think. At least you where asleep.’
She made a painful face while she said that.
‘Why aren’t you in bed, resting?’ I asked.
‘I’m a quick healer. That’s one of my personal touches to my gift.’ She said with a wink.
She took a quick glance at Fang.
‘I see one of your friends is here.’ She said detested.
‘You probably don’t remember this or even saw it but Fang, Snitch and the other wolfs back there saved us. If it wasn’t for them we would be dead by now.’ I said with a tone.
She bitted on her lip and came to sit next to Fang. She rubbed his fur softly and carefully. He made a little growling noise of satisfaction. I rolled my eyes. Fang, like always, understood what it meant and started growling on a way that sounded like a laugh.
‘It’s like he knows what we meant.’ Elaina said.
‘You see. I’m not the only one hoe Sais that’ I said to fang.
He jumped of the bed and went to the couch.
‘He doesn’t look like a normal wolf. He’s much bigger and darker. What is he?’Elaina asked.
‘To be completely honest. I don’t have a clue. That’s one of the reasons I follow mythology. I have found a couple of things but I’m not certain of those facts.’
‘In school or in one of those books.’ She said while she was pointing at my book closet that was full of books about everything around mythology, history and other things of that sort.
Her eyes stopped at one book in particular. The book that was given to me when I was tested for what kind of gift I had. It was one of the smallest books, and was completely black whit silver designs on it, on the table that day and it was the only one of it. It was in a different, ancient language. I’m still studying the language but I almost translated the whole book and it helped me a lot about my gift and how to use it. Elaina took the book and looked at the cover.
‘I have the same one in white with gold.’
I looked surprised. I read something in the book about the white version. It was completely the same but also completely different. Mine wend completely about how to use the darkness. The white one was about how to use the light. They where each others counters, but they where even stronger together.
‘Did you ever read yours? Do you even now what it means?’ I asked.
‘Yes I red it, half way. The language is very hard and I know what it means. I came that far.’ She said to defend her self.
She opened the page where I putted a peace of paper between it. She looked as a little child that was trying to get Chinese.
‘If you’re going to read mine, then I’ll have to read yours.’
She smiled and opened the black bag she was carrying whit her and took the white book out of and gave it to me. She sat down next to me on the bed. We started reading what we understood. After a couple of chapters my brother came in.
‘you tree are probably hungry. If you come down you’ll get some food.’
Fang jumped out of the couch and walked out of the room.
‘I hope you know that he’s in here cause if you don’t I’m not going to be the one that’s going to tell you that there’s a wolf in the house.’
‘I know he’s here. I let him in. I know that you care about him so I trust you to trust him so I can trust him.’ My brother said.
‘Say that tree times in a row.’ I said.
‘Ha, ha. Very funny little bro.’
He walked out of the room but I called him back.
‘Alex. I think where going out to eat if you don’t mind.’
‘Sure. Go your way. More for us.’ He said while rubbing his hands against each other.
He left the room.
‘If you don’t mind, I like to take a quick shower. Ill be back in a couple of minutes. You can take a look around but please respect my privacy.’ I said.
She smiled.
‘Sure.’
I crawled out of bed and walked to the closet and took some of my own black clothing and went to my bathroom. After a shower and putting on my cloths, I returned to my room. Elaina was lying on my bed while she was reading a big book about Celtic history.
‘This is an interesting book. I have the same one but about the Aztecs. You mind if I borrow it?’ she said while she stood up.
‘Take it. As long as you’re giving it back it’ll be fine.’
She smiled at me on a strange but special way. I felt something tingle inside but I didn’t now what it was. We went out to a sheep fast-food place where we ate, talked and sometimes even laugh. Afterwards we went to a movie and then to the park. After a long walk we reached the pond. The moon was shinning bright. I felt it inside. It was reflected on the water.
‘It’s beautiful.’ Elaine said.
‘Yes it is.’ I wasn’t looking at the water, I was looking at her.
The moon gave her beauty something extra, something more. She looked at me and blushed. I turned away.
‘Sorry. It was out of my mouth before I knew it.’ I said kind of shy.
It was quiet for a while.
‘I think its time to go home.’ Elaina said to break the silence.
I didn’t want her to go. It started to rain, hard. We looked each other in the eyes. Hers where beautiful, just like the rest of her. Our lips found each other as if we where pulled to each other. We where soaping wet but that didn’t matter. She pulled her self loose from our kiss.
‘I can’t. I’m sorry.’ She said while she ran away.
I followed her but I couldn’t take her pace for long cause of the pain in my chest. She disappeared after a small flash of white light. She teleported away. I didn’t now where she lived but I knew how to find out. I concentrated and before I knew it I was standing in front of her. I was out of breath but that didn’t matter. We where standing in front of a white mansion with high fences and a long grass mat. It was still raining
‘Why did you follow me?’ she said mad.
‘Elaina. What’s the problem?’ I asked her.
There was a short pause. We where soaking wet and the water was dripping from our faces.
‘I can’t. As soon as you see what I covered from my body, you’ll be repulsed and I dump like an anchor. It always happens. Always. I don’t want to hurt you so I think it’ll be better if we stay friends.’ She said sadly.
‘I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.’
‘What?’
‘Show me what ever you’re hiding and I’ll show what I’m hiding beneath my cloths.’
‘I warned you.’ She said.
She took of her gloves and showed me cutting wounds al over the down side of her arms. I stepped to her and touched them softly.
‘Now show me yours.’ She said.
I nodded and opened my jacked. I gave her my jacked and then pulled of my shirt witch I also gave to her. She touched the burn scars who where the base of my dragon tattoo’s.
‘Nice tats.’ Elaina said.
‘I draw it myself. You don’t see it completely cause of the bandages.’
‘Can you make one for me?’ She nodded.
‘When?’
‘As soon as you can.’
‘Right now?’
‘Good enough.’ She said.
I nodded and we teleported back to my house, inside my room. I took my drawing books and gave it to her.
‘If you don’t like one from the books then I’ll make a new one.’
She looked in the book but didn’t found one. I took a new peace of paper, some drawing materials and started to make one. After tree hours I was finished with the drawing and gave it to her. It was an image of a light and dark angel who where holding each others hand. They where linked by the hands and a red ribbon that covered them.
‘It’s beautiful. Thanks.’ She said.
‘The weathers only getting wears. I think its better that you stay here for the night.’ I said.
She nodded and threw her self to me. We kissed passionately and fell on my bed. Al the papers got shattered true the room. We helped each other out of our clothing. Our body’s where strangled with each others. My tongue touched hers. I kissed her whole body and she kissed mine. An half an hour later we where lying beneath the blanked and where holding each other gently. There where a couple drops of blood coming true my bandage. Elaina wasn’t wherein any bandage anymore. She only had a scratch left of here injury.
‘You weren’t kidding when you said that you healed quickly.’ I said whit a whisper to stay in the moment.
‘Hm, why should I make a joke about something like that?’
‘You’re a lucky lady.’
‘You can say that again.’ She said while she gave me a kiss on my cheek.
I kissed her back on the mouth. We fell asleep. The next morning she was now where to be seen. I stood up and went to the kitchen. Alex was sitting on the table wit little Laina and Tommy. They where eating breakfast. To my surprise, Elaina was sitting with them.
‘Good morning.’ I mumbled.
‘Uncle Mike.’ The two little ones jelled while they ran to me.
I stopped them by holding my hand in front of there noses. I didn’t want them to jump on me wit my wound that was healing very slowly.
‘Go back to your cornflakes so you’ll be fit for school.’ I said.
‘Yes Uncle Mike.’ They said together and they ran back to their spots.
I sat down next to Elaina.
‘So you two are together?’ my brother asked.
We bout nodded. He stood up and took a pan from the stow where he was baking some eggs in. he gave me a plate. Elaina already had one. My brother was a terrific cook. He was the head chef of the most famous restaurant in whole England and he had a couple of awards for best chef and creative cooking. Because of that he was filthy rich.
‘Your brother told me that he’s a head chef. You can taste it by the food.’ Elaina said.
‘Daddy is the best cook in the world.’ Tommy said.
‘Yeah. What mommy or Uncle Mike make is icky if you compare it with daddy’s food.’ Lana said.
‘Aren’t my kids a good commercial?’ Alex asked proud.
I rolled my eyes. Elaina was laughing a little.
‘So, what are you two up to today?’ Alex said to change the subject.
‘To the city, I think.’ I answered.
‘Sounds fun. After breakfast then?’ Elaina asked.
I nodded.
‘Can you bring the little rascals to school to. I can’t cause I have to go to work early today.’
‘Sure.’
We ate our meal and afterwards we took my car and the kids and went to the city of London. My car was a black SUV. After we brought the kids to school I kept the car parked.
‘What do you want to do?’ I asked Elaina.
She took a piece of paper out of her bag. It was the drawing I made.
‘I think I’m going to let I it tattooed on my arm, over my scars. You made it for that, didn’t you?’
‘Yes. That’s why there are so many lines.’
‘Then we’ll go to the place where they putted yours.’
‘Okay. You sure that you thought it over. It stays there for ever’
‘I’m sure.’ She said convinced.
I started the engine and drove to downtown London. After a couple of minutes we where at the shop. It was a small store for piercings and Tattooing arts. It was owned by a guy that was gifted just like me and Elaina. He had a special way of making tattoos that involved his gift. We went in.
‘Well, well. Mikey, you back for an other tat?’ the owner asked.
‘I’m just here to look. She’s your victim today.’ I said while I pointed to Elaina.
She smiled a little shy.
‘What can I do for a beautiful girl like you?’ the owner said while I sat down on the guest chair and took one of the art books on the table.
Elaine stepped forward and lay the drawing on the counter.
‘I want this on my left arm. Right here.’ She said while she pointed.
The owner looked at the drawing.
‘This one of your works?’ he asked me.
I nodded.
‘Looks capable’ He said.
‘So, you’re going to do it?’ Elaina asked him.
‘Of course. This way.’ He said while he leaded her to the other room.
‘Good luck.’ Is said to them.
They both smiled at me and disappeared out of my sight. I looked at a couple of books when I found this one picture of a wolf that looked like Fang. He was howling to a blue moon. I took the book and walked to the other room. The owner was already halve way with the work.
‘Did you make this one?’ I said while I pointed at the picture.
‘No. this young man. He was a couple of years younger then you. He was one like us.’
‘Can you give me his name or do I have to find out myself?’
‘His name was Raphael. Or something like that.’
I nodded.
‘Thanks. Elaina, I’ll be right back. I’m goanna look for this Raphael guy. I’ll be back before you finish, I promise.’
‘Okay. I’ll wait here. If you don’t get back in time, I won’t be here.’ She said.
I nodded and left the store. Once out I checked if anyone was around. Nobody. I concentrated on the name Raphael. In a flash I was on a grass field. A man with blond hair was sitting on it with his back to me.
‘Why do you teleport on private terrain. You don’t have any business here. Leave.’
‘Where did you saw the black wolf? I saw you’re picture of it with the blue moon.’
‘That’s none of your business.’
He stood up and turned towards me. There was something weird about him. His blond hair that was almost completely white and his brown eyes unlocked a warning inside me. He looked as surprised as me when we met sight. I here’d a familiar howl. It was Fang. He was near.
‘Who are you?’ he asked me.
‘Well, I know your name so I think it’s only right that you know mine. The name’s Michael.’ Somehow I used my full name without even noticing it.
‘What class are you?’ he asked me.
‘That’s none of your business.’ I said.
I knew he was very powerful, I could sense it in the air. He probably was an s-class. That means that we where equals.
‘Then I’ll have to find out.’ He said.
A ball of fire came at me. I stopped it with a mind shield. I was just in time cause it vaporized in front of my face.
‘Mind techniques. This can get fun.’ He said.
My eyes opened widely. He was trying to penetrate my mind. I stopped him. I blocked him and putted him a nightmare realm. He fell on his knees and his hands got strangled in his hair. A blow came at me. Before it hit me I saw an eagle came towards me. I got smacked against the ground and I knew for sure my wound opened again. My mind was broken. Everything moved along before me as if I stood still. I was lying on the ground and I couldn’t move, not even my sight. A food was standing in front of me. Everything went mute. He bucked so I could see his face. It was a man with long black hair until over his shoulders and he had red eyes. His voice reached to me.
‘Michael. It wasn’t very smart of you to just attack him.’ He said.
I wanted to defend myself but I couldn’t.
‘Even tough you’re both the angels of darkness. Only one of you can be the good one and the other one the evil one. It looks like you showed that you are the evil one. That’s why you have to dye right now.’
He changed into a dark phoenix. Black flames descended on me. They surrounded me. It was like I was a little boy all over again. The flames ate me alive. It burned al over my body. I wanted to scream of the pain but I couldn’t. I was frozen. Something jumped at the Phoenix. A black beast. It was Fang. He was fighting wit the Phoenix. The flames started to faint but still I couldn’t move.
‘It’s over for now but I’ll come back to take you out, Michael.’ The voice of the man said.
The Phoenix disappeared wit a black flash. Wit the flash I passed out.
I woke up because I felt something wet on my hand. My eyes felt like they never shut down. Fang was licking my hand. I could barely move cause of the burning pain. I tried to sit up but the pain was inhuman. I tried to move my hand. There was not even one burn wound on it. In my mind it flashed over and over again. It made the pain come back. This time I screamed. I didn’t know how long I was lying there but when night fell I still felt the pain. Fang was with me al the time to comfort me. I saw the moon. It was round and full. I was out of breath and my body ached all over again. I once read about something like this. It meant that someone broke my mind. I took a deep breath and tried to relax. Fang sat down right in front of me, watching me. Guarding me. I cleared my mind and kept only one word in it. Help. Warmth came into me. A safe feeling. There was something or someone that was watching me. But still it made me feel safe. A blue shine came from my body and took over my vision. The moon turned blue. Fang gave me a look of compassion. He howled. Everything turned bright blue and then whit a white flash I fell asleep. It gave me the time to think. Elaina probably went home. She must have bin tired of waiting. I was tired to. Elaina. She somehow gave me the feeling that I wasn’t alone. That I was something more. I smiled while I was thinking of her. That tattoo must look very good on her just like anything else. I only knew her for a day but it felt longer. Much, much longer. Then his name popped up in my mind again. Raphael. Who was he and who was the guy in black with the red eyes? He talked about me as if he knew me. He said that I was that Raphael guy’s counter or something like that. My thoughts drifted again. They drifted to this beautiful forest. I was walking true it with the wolfs. Then Elaina joined me. It was fun just running true the forest wit my friends, the wolfs and the girl I liked. Then the wolfs ran of and the only ones left where me and Elaine. We held each others hands but then she let go and disappeared. I was alone, again. The forest caught fire. Black fire. The black Phoenix flew towards me and then we collided. I woke up out of my dream. Fang was still with me but he was sleeping. I crawled up. Everything seemed higher then normal, like I shrunk. Someone yawned.
‘Hoe’s there?’ I asked.
‘Looks like you’re up.’ A rough mans voice said.
I looked around. The only one with me was Fang.
‘Don’t freak out, Michael. Its me.’ the voice came from Fang.
He was talking to me.
‘Fang? Can you speak?’
‘I can speak with you.’
‘What do you mean by that? Did I do something wrong?’
‘No. you did the right thing. You’re safe now. You’re with you’re friends.’
‘Chief?!’ a long yell shivered true me.
‘I’m here and he’s with me.’ Fang yelled back.
A smaller wolf came running. He was dark grey and smaller then a normal wolf. It was Snitch.
‘He still doesn’t look good. We can better take him with us so he can rest.’ Snitch said.
‘That would be the best. Michael, do you have enough strength to walk a day or so?’ Fang asked me.
‘What’s going on?’ I asked them.
‘We’ll explain when we get there.’ Fang said.
I nodded or at least I think. I stood up but somehow I was at the same height as Fang. Maybe he even grown bigger or maybe I wasn’t walking straight. I looked at my hands. They weren’t there. Instead I had big, black, furry paws with long claws on them.
‘Fang? What’s going on?’ I asked.
‘That’s why I can talk to you now. You changed in a wolf like me. Not a normal wolf but an ancient Chimaire Wolf. Stay calm okay. We’ll make sure nothing happens to you and right now, being a wolf isn’t such a bad thing. Some bad folks are after you. Very bad folks.’
‘Who?’
‘The guy in black with the red eyes. He’s one of them. He’s called Nexus also known as the leader of the dark hand organization.’
‘Dark hand organization? What the heck is that?’
‘They gather gifted people ho have darkness in them. But not just normal darkness. Pure and evil darkness. They say it’s the other way but it isn’t. There probably ill minded or something.’
‘That’s what it looks like indeed.’
We started walking. Even though I was exhausted and my body ached badly, it went a lot easier then in my human form.
‘How come I changed into a wolf and how do I turn back?’ is asked Fang.
‘I think you changed because it was your last resort of safety. How you turn back, that’s up to you. I don’t now how someone’s gift works.’ He answered.
It went quit for a wile. There was the sound of twitches snapping behind us. A new instinct rushed inside me. Immediately I felt as if I new where I had to go. We ran towards that point.
‘Get them!’ a voice jelled behind us.
We got attacked by fireballs, spikes of ice and other elemental magic was used against us. We dogged them all with a superior agility. I was tired but the beast inside me saved me from falling apart.
‘This way.’ Fang said to me.
I jumped after him into a hole beneath a tree. Snitch jumped after us. We stayed there until we didn’t hear anything anymore besides our own breathing.
‘Lets stay here for the night or else you won’t make it in your condition.’ Fang said with a whisper.
He was right. I was tired and my body was still aching. I let myself fall on the ground and closed my eyes. As soon as I started to sleep the burning pain came back. It was like the flames returned to me. I was screaming from the pain.
‘Michael! Wake up! Michael.’ Fang jelled at me.
I slowly opened my eyes. Fang and snitch where looking concerned.
‘What’s wrong?’ I asked them with a sour troth.
‘You where screaming painfully. If you went on like that for a little longer they would have found us.’ Fang said.
‘Sorry. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Every time I close my eyes it happens again. The black flames coming over me. Again and again. The pain.’
My thoughts went back to that moment. I could still feel it burning.
‘They broke your mind, didn’t they?’ fang asked.
I looked up to him and nodded.
‘They did.’ I said painfully.
Snitch crawled in a corner. He looked scarred. I looked at Fang wit a frown.
‘We all now how you feel. Some people take animals with them to test there mind techniques on us. It happened to snitch when he was a cup. Its still haunts him but they didn’t do anything to him while it happened. That’s why you relive it over and over again when you sleep. I’m sorry.’ He said.
‘What are you sorry for? It wasn’t your fault.’
‘Yes it was. I’m your linked animal. It was my job to protect you but I was too late. Much too late. From now on I wont leave you out of sight.’
‘It isn’t your fault Fang. If it wasn’t for you I would be dead. Thanks my friend.’
Fang looked sadly at me. We stayed the night in the hole. I didn’t close my eyes for once. Fang also stayed awake to keep me up when he taught I would fall asleep. The next morning we left the hole. A wall of ice was surrounding the hole.
‘What’s this?’ Snitch asked.
‘We’ve been found.’ I said to him.
Fang nodded.
‘It looks like we caught them. Capture them.’ A familiar voice said.
There where nets thrown at us. We tried to bite them true but it didn’t work. It was some special rope with the taste of plastic and iron at once.
‘Michael. Try to use your gift. Maybe it still works.’ Fang said.
I nodded and cleared my mind. The burning pain came again. I screamed but kept concentrating. The nets got blow of me. I fell on my side. It cost me more energy then I thought.
‘Michael! Stand up!’ Fang jelled.
I crawled up and took the nets from Fang and Snitch. Then I used my gift again to blow away the ice. Behind it there were two men. I remembered them. It weren’t the people I thought they where. It where my brother and Raymon. But why did they attack us?
‘It’s Fang. The wolf that’s always with Mike. Maybe he can bring us to him.’ Alex said to Ramon.
He nodded.
‘There are two of those big ones. Witch one is it?’ Raymon asked.
‘We’ll have to read there minds. Let’s start with the one that used the gift. Mike always said that he understood what he said maybe he has something of the gift.’
Alex walked towards me and putted his hand on my head.
‘It’s okay. I’m not going to hurt you. I promise.’ He said while he was rubbing my head.
I nodded. I felt how his mind penetrated mine. His voice reached to me.
‘Wolf. Are you the one called Fang?’ he asked.
‘No Alex. It’s me.’ I said.
Alex jumped up and broke up the connection to fast. I shrunk to the ground.
‘Mike? Michael? Is it really you?’ Alex asked me.
I nodded faintly. Alex sat down next to me and putted his hand on my shoulder.
‘What happened to you?’ He said in my mind again.
I explained the whole thing to him bye mind contact.
‘What’s going on Alex? Where’s Michael?’ Raymon asked.
I gave him a growl because he used my whole name.
‘That’s Mike alright.’ Raymon said.
Alex explained everything to Raymon.
‘Mike. It’s going to be alright. You’re coming with us.’ Alex said normally this time.
I nodded.
‘We’ll teleport to a safe place.’ Raymon said.
‘You’re not going anywhere without me Michael.’ Fang said.
‘I could have thought you would say that. At least I hoped you would.’ I said.
I turned to Alex and putted my paw on his leg.
‘Alex. Fang and Snitch are coming with us. They know I’m whit them so they’ll go after them to.’ I said true my mind to my brother.
‘Alright. Lets teleport. Don’t lose any contact.’ He said on a warning tone.
We teleported, all of us, without any problems in the middle of a deserted street. At the end of the street where seven cloaked men waiting for us. Fang and Snitch started to growl. Alex and Raymon already had a shield prepared
‘That must be them.’ Alex said.
I nodded. The men in capes came walking toward us. Some of them casted black fire balls at us. They where stopped by Alex and Raymon’s shield. Fang and Snitch ran to them and attacked them.
‘Don’t. There to strong.’ I jelled at them.
It was to late the both of them where smacked hard against the wall. They weren’t standing up.
‘Michael. Run.’ Alex said to me while he was sending back a couple of lightning balls towards our enemy’s.
‘No!’ I jelled when Raymon’s shield broke of and he got smacked to the ground a couple of meters behind us.
Only me and Alex where left.
‘We have to get out of here.’ I said to him while I made a shield.
‘No Mike. That won’t work. I’ll keep them of while you get away. You’re safety is much more important to me and the rest of us.’
‘Why? Why am I so important?’ I asked mad.
‘Cause, you’re the angel of darkness with good in you. You and the angel of light, the good angel of light, need to live and save the world.’
‘Why me? Why not you or someone else?’ I asked.
‘Because…’ Alex got hit by a fire ball to his chest.
I looked to the hooded men. They where surrounding me.
‘Look. The only thing that’s left is an over sized wolf. I think we have to kill this one to.’ One of them said.
‘I don’t think so.’ A women’s voice said.
An arrow guided by light hit the men witch threatened me. He felled down. A white horse with a driver in a white hood came running. She was carrying bow and arrow with her. She took a fresh one from her back and shot one of the other hooded men down.
‘It’s her. Get her.’ One of them said.
The circle spread out and attacked her. All the attacks where blocked by the most powerful shield I ever saw. She shot balls of light to Alex and the others. They disappeared. I focused and reached her mind.
‘What did you do to them?’ I asked mad.
‘There safe. Jump on the horse when I drive by. I’ll bring you to safety.’ She answered back.
Her horse was faster then most horses. She already passed me in a couple of seconds I jumped on with the littlest of energy I had. She held me with one arm on the horse and with the other she drove into something that looked like a whit gate. The horse drove us true a white hall with at the end a dark gateway to run out. The irons of the horse where sounding true the hall.
‘You’re safe now. I’ll make sure of that.’ The women said to me.
I couldn’t place it but somehow I knew the voice. It reached to me. Besides that I was a wolf, there was something wrong with me. That I knew for sure. I started to lose all my energy while we where reaching the other door. Right before I passed out I took a glance of where the mystery women was taking me. It was a beautiful landscape with trees, flowers and a small farm. My eyes went shut and the painful dream cam again. This time I could not wake myself up. It was after a long time of suffering that someone woke me up whit a spell.
‘Michael? Are you alright?’ someone asked me.
I slowly opened my eyes. Alex was leaning over me. His shoulder was covered in bandages. I looked around. Everyone was there. Accept Elaina. I raised my hand that once was a paw.
‘I’m back to normal.’ I said relieved.
Alex nodded with a faint smile.
‘You where out for a while. But we did what we could to repair your mind. It would take a long time before it restores completely.’
I was lying on a comfy bed with soft pillows. I sunk away in the pillows. I was relieved something’s seamed to finally look better. The women in the white hood stepped forward and kneeled next to my bed. I saw a tattoo on her arm. I knew the tattoo. I had drawn it myself.
‘Elaina?’ I asked.
She nodded but didn’t take of her hood. Why didn’t she take of her hood?
‘I want to see your face.’ I said.
I noticed that my voice was faint and weak. Elaina looked away, at nothing in particular. I took her hand.
‘Elaina? What’s wrong?’ I asked her.
She turned back at me and took of her hood. She looked a couple of years older. Her long hair was even longer and reached her behind. I took a look around. Everyone was aged. That’s why it took me so long to recognize them.
‘How long has passed from that day? From when I turned into a wolf?’ I asked all of them.
Elaina sat down on the edge of the bed.
‘Seven years Michael.’ She said with a calm voice.
‘Seven Years?’ I asked.
Everyone nodded. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I didn’t remember anything of those years. Not one single thing.
‘I’ve set you up for seven years did I.’ I said to break the tension.
She smiled a little more and took my hand.
‘The thing that matters is that you’re back with us.’ She said with a gentle smile.
I wanted to do something to say that I’m sorry.
‘I’m glad your back.’ She said and she held me tender in her arms.
I putted my arms around her. While I was holding her, my strength returned to me. As if she healed me while I was holding her. When she let me go I felt better but not a 100%. Fang slowly walked to me. He had a bandage around his paw but it only slowed him down.
‘Michael. You’re human again. Do you feel alright?’ he asked.
‘I can still understand you.’ I said to him.
‘Yes. Once a wolf, always a wolf.’
I smiled faintly at him. I turned to Alex and Raymon.
‘What happened while I was gone?’ I asked them.
‘A lot. The day you disappeared, the Dark hand organization did there first strike. They made a shield around the normal world so nobody of our world could get there or could get back. We searched for holes but didn’t find any. Then they attacked the gifted ones in the normal world. Some of them died. Some of them are still suffering and then others are still there, hiding for them. In the mean time here, in our world, everything was much worse. There troops grew and started to attack the people with the ‘pure good’ in them. People got fooled and joined them. Others joined them because they knew who they where. Then they started to attack the ‘evil’ ones. That’s when we came and fought them. We still are. As counter against the Dark hand organization, we call ourselves the Light hand organization. We do what where supposed to do. Protecting people and protecting the angel of Light and Darkness. Those are you two.’ Alex pointed at me and Elaina.
‘You’re the angel of Light?’ I asked Elaina.
She nodded.
‘I found out the hard way. Just like you. Only I didn’t suffer so long. I was spared for that. I read the whole book by the way. I also read you’re book. Apparently it was our destiny to meet.’ She said.
A woman came with a trail with food on it for everyone in the room.
‘I’m sorry. I didn’t know he was awake. I’ll go and make some extra.’ The women said after leaving the trail behind.
‘In the meantime you probably want to clean up. There’s a bathroom with clothing and everything in there.’ Alex said proudly.
‘Let me guess. This is you’re new place.’ I said to him.
‘Indeed. It’s much bigger and more peaceful. That and this is the safe house for everyone who needs it.’
‘It seems that a lot has changed. Fang. What happened with you in the mean time and with me?’ I asked the Chimaeras wolf.
‘We fought along humans to protect the world in the mean time, you where nowhere to be found. You disappeared. We didn’t now what happened to you until you reappeared at the same spot where you disappeared. When we found you two weeks ago, you where a wolf and you where in bad shape. We couldn’t move you until you woke up. When you did, we ran. You now the story from then on.’
I nodded and sat straight.
‘Don’t over do it. You still need to rest.’ Elaina said concerned.
‘I know.’ I said to ease her worries?
I went out of bed and into the bathroom. It was a little uneasy to move back in my human body. In the bathroom I putted on the shower and took of my clothes. My body was full of bandages and scars. There was almost nothing left of the tattoos I had. My face was older and my hair was longer. It reached the low side of my shoulders and it was darker, almost black. Somehow my muscles where more developed. After I was cleaned up I opened the closet with the clothes. I where some medieval looking clothes. I took a black pants and a vest that reached right above my knees. Then I took some boots that reached the half of my lower legs. It fitted perfectly. I went out of the bathroom, back into the bedroom. Everybody left accept Elaina. She was sitting in a chair.
‘You like the clothes?’ she asked me.
She was also wearing the same type of clothing accept hers where white. It was strange. The first time we met was her outfit completely black but the white was more beautiful with her.
‘Yeah. They feel good and lots of moving space.’ Somehow that was the first thing I tested when I putted them on.’
‘Good cause that’s the basic. If we go out you’ll have to put on the leather protection and then you’re cloak.’
‘Why a cloak?’
‘To show you’re
