Limericks / Obama Limerick (July 2, 2009)

Thank you for your review. With any political satire, the fleeting nature of the incidents makes it virtually impossible to read for anyone who does not follow the news closely. This was a mild form of “required reading” enforcement…:)
I had to keep the comma after a@#, both for the grammatical reasons, and for the “sound” of the necessary caesura in the line, and if it is kept, then the period after lips logically follows – otherwise, the sentence becomes hard to decipher.

I suspect – if what you wrote in your profile is true – that the way we pronounce words in US (and particularly, in Texas) may be different from what you are accustomed to hear. Political satire is not written for posterity – so, I have to focus on my “primary market”, so to speak.

When people speak of someone disrespectfully, they refer to this person’s behind, rather than to his brain (as in “get this blabbering a@# out of here!”).

In this short piece there is lot of little internal connections – the moon (that you smartly caught), the fact that brain and the posterior are both round in shape and hold respective related posistions etc. etc.

Limericks can be judged just like any other poetry – on form (rhyme, meter, sound, symmetry, style) and content (originality and strength of the thought). If you do not know how to review a specific piece (be it a limerick or anything else) you may first take a look to see how other reviews were done. When I started, this is what helped me.
