Lyrics / Black Eye

Another white lie still satisfies
Armed with the perfect handshake
A promise to a lifestyle we don't dare shake
Vanity has made us the kings and queens of no one
As we paint pretty pictures
In the ugliest of colors
Keeping us low, we pour down on us
Sometimes overrun the cooler shades
Discussing ourselves as the new medium
Speaking of the nothing we've become
Our simplest imperfections
Cast doubt in our selfish eyes
Searching for new skin to crawl in
Discontent with our own triumphs
When the trophies of yesterday
Aren't big enough to hide our shame
Mimicking everyone but ourselves
Where's the authenticity of being real anymore
Do you hear or even care
Or do you just stare down the fucking fear
The falsehood you've created out of
The shallow roots you've planted
In this once natural now plastic state of mind
Holding judgement until we're just weeded out
Dreaming of thinner waists, faster cars and prettier wives
Instead of safer streets, stronger jobs and healthier lives
I should’ve become a thespian and staged my own death
There would’ve been dollar signs in hollywood's eyes
Dress me up with sex appeal to find a watered down experience
Of what it really feels like to be the next big thing
And lose my virginity to a standing ovation
My wounds our televised for pure ratings
Of those desires to crave us falling to our knees
What can we scrape from this existance
As we trample ourselves, face down in the path
Of another successful climb to the top
We just grasp for a bigger piece
We fall to never reach
The simple satisfactions never fill our stomach
The mind's just bloated with candid pride
Is this picture perfect of what we've become
I can’t start pointing fingers when we're all to blame
Happiness just doesn’t sell around these parts anymore
I must be all out of luck when truth floods the conciousness
When we're on the pace to break our own personal best
Because records are said they were meant to be broken
By creating and destroying relationships in the blink of an eye
When one out of every two just won’t cut it
And the second go around cuts deeper than the first
With an even tougher time to hold onto a second chance at love
We need to find a common ground or set lower standards
And if we can't do any better lets try for the worse and not try at all
