Horror / Hallows Eve (Analysis)

 October 1
My daddy got a new job in a small town called Hollow-moon. The town is very small. I wonder what the schooling is like here. I’ve seen some of the kids around here and they don’t seem to friendly. Most seem really mean. I don’t think I’m gonna be making friends anytime soon. The plus side is, my daddy and I have a HUGE home. Its four stories buts really old. My daddy says that if I kept looking, I might find hidden passages. That would be awesome. But till then, the only thing I’m concerned about is finding friends, if I can find at least one, I’ll be happy. Daddy just says I’m over reacting, but I don’t think anyone in this town is nice. Daddy also says that its not nice to be prejudgest but; I can’t help that uneasy feeling I get around this town. So for now, I’ll just stick to going to school and hoping to find a friend there. School tomorrow! Yippy! I hope I have a good day tomorrow and meet someone nice.

-CARRIE

Knock, knock, knock. Carrie’s father banged on the door. “Carrie, time to get up and get ready for school!”
“Alright dad I’ll be out in a second!”
Carrie lay there a few minutes more worrying about what today was gonna bring. She hoped that the kids weren’t as mean as they looked. She rolled back the covers and swung her feet out in front of her and just barely touched them to the ground. She walked over to her wardrobe and shifted through her cloths trying to find a set of clothes that looked good and threw them on.
She walked down the stairs wishing she had picked a different floor instead of picking the top floor. But she couldn’t help but pick it, it had a look to it that she just loved. It was a large room. it took up like half of the top floor itself and had a view of the lake, oh and the small fire place was what she loved most about the room.
As she got to the end of the stairs she got hit with the smell of eggs, toast, . . .and her favorite food, bacon! She walked silently into the kitchen and sat down at the table where her food awaited her. Her father whirled around, walked over, and sat next to her with his plate of food.
“I made your favorite.” He had said as he picked up the news paper.
“I can tell.” She replied with a huge grin and quickly scoffed it down. "Thanks dad,” she said with a full mouth. Quickly swallowing, she gave him a kiss on the cheek.
“Phew, your breath smells. Go brush your teeth.”
“On it dad,” she said over her shoulder as she rushed out the door to the bathroom down the hall. As she stood there brushing her teeth, she had an uneasy feeling that she was being watched. She looked around and saw nothing so she went back to brushing her teeth.
“Carrie, time to go out and wait for the bus!”
“Okay dad!” She walked out the door of the bathroom quickly doing her hair, and walked to the other end of the hall. She threw on her jacket, grabbed her backpack, and walked out the door.
She watched as the bus pulled up and watched a kid get beat up and saw that the bus driver didn’t do a thing about it. Stepping cautiously into the bus, she saw that the front seat was open so she sat quickly in it. Just then a scary looking high schooler walked up and sat in the seat behind her a said in a harsh voice, “Your the new girl right? Well just to let you know, we here at Hollow-moon High don’t like new kids...”
“Gary leave her alone,” said another harsh voice as cold as ice said behind him. It was a female this time, she sounded about my age. So I looked around to see who it was and it was a what looked like 12 maybe 13 year-old.
The boy looked-no glared-at her then walked to the back of the bus. Carrie could hear his friends laughing at him as he walked back. “Shut up.” Then he hit whoever was laughing at him.
“I’m sorry about that,” the girl said as she sat with Carrie.
“Oh no, it’s fine. I kinda figured that that was what my first day was gonna be like.”
“Where are my manors? My name is Vivian.” She said as she held out a hand.
“Uh . . . my name is Carrie.”
“Your father and you just moved into that old mansion right?”
“Uh . . . yeah, why?”
“Oh just wondering. Hey what classes do you have?”
“Um . . . I don’t know.”
“Let me see your schedule.”
“Okay.” Carrie reaches into her backpack and digs around for her schedule. She whips it out and hands it to Vivian.
“Ha! You have the same exact schedule as me. Great just follow me around today and I’ll show you the school.”

Ring! All the students poured out into the hallways and headed to the cafeteria. Vidian was going on about all the teachers and how they were all terrible, but she soon blocked her out when she saw a kid in the grade above her. He was dressed as a goth and had a stern look on his face. His jet black hair wasn’t cute short like the other’s, it was long, but not as long as the 70’s hippy long, it was just down to his chin. His figure was muscular in comparison to the others, the others were skinny as a rail. Vivian noticed Carrie’s lack of comments and saw what she was starring at.
“That. Is. Dimitri. He is actually pretty cute aside from his gothic appearance.” She said it like she had already tried to go out with him but failed. Which Carrie picked up on immediately.
“I take it that you know everybody in the school?”
“Well if you go to a school long enough, you get to know all the names and faces of everybody.”
Carrie was finally able to peal her eyes of Dimitri and make her way to cafeteria with the other students. “Is it always this crowded?”
“Yeah pretty much. That’s why some kids walk some place else to eat.”
“I figured with a town this small-no offense-that there wasn’t gonna be this many kids.”
“None taken. This is a pretty small town. But yeah there are a lot of kids here in this town. Which is why in high school we get shipped out to the next city, which is luckily 3 miles away.”

On the ride home she sat with Vidian and had an interesting chat with her. They talked about which guys are dateable in this town.

Carrie got inside and hung up her coat. She walked into the living and when she saw her father wasn’t in there, she snuck her way into the kitchen and got tot he cookie jar when she heard her father shout, “Don’t even think about it!”
“How the heck did he know?”
“Because of two reasons, one is that I know you so I knew that that is what you was going for, and two you were to quite.”
“ . . .whatever.”
Her father chuckles. “You have any homework?”
“No.”
“How was your day? Did you make any new friends?”
“Good and yes I made a new friend. Her name is Vivian.”
“Vivian . . .?”
“I don’t know. You made new friend but didn’t bother getting her last name?”
“ . . .yeah basically.”
Laughs, “Wow. Your just like your mother.”
She grabbed her back pack and made her way up to her fourth floor bedroom. She threw he bag down and did a face plant right in the middle of her bed and fell asleep.

Okay, so my dad was half right. I made one friend. Her name is Vidian. She seemed very nice. She had told an older boy to leave me alone when he was bothering me. I wonder how she did it, he must’ve been her brother or something. Oh well, all I know is that it was done. School also wasn’t that bad, the teachers were nice to me . . . for that day at least. I never would’ve thought that in a small town like this, there would be so many kids, the halls were crowded, I could barely even breath. The was also this boy there, for a goth he was actually pretty cute. Even Vivian agreed. His name was Dimitri. He was really really cute, I wonder if I would be able to actually speak to him without stuttering? Why does he strike me as cute, I don’t really like like muscular men. Well, I don’t like really muscular men, the one with six-pack abs that look like their ribs are sticking out. He didn’t seem to have those types of abs, luckily. I don’t know why I’m so stuck on him, I’ve never liked an guy before. Well I have school tomorrow so I should say good night. Night, night.

-CARRIE

Carrie’s morning was like the day before: wake up, get dressed, trudge down the four flights of stairs (wishing she had pick the second floor instead but then remembering why she had picked her room to begin with), eat breakfast with her dad, brush her teeth, and head out for the bus.
Todays breakfast was waffles. She walked into the kitchen and sniffed, “Mmm, yummy. So I never did ask you how your first day went at work daddy.”
“My day was really good. There’s not really that goes on much in this town though. But for some reason I get paid better here than I have anywhere else. I wonder why that is.”
“I dunno.” Carrie shrugged.
“Well go brush your teeth, it’s almost time to head out to the bus.”
“Okay dad,” Carrie said rushing out the door.
As she was brushing her teeth she had the erie feeling that someone was watching her. This time she just ignored it and continued brushing her teeth.
“Carrie, time for the bus!”
“Okay! Hang on!” She yelled with a mouth full of Listerine.

The bus pulled up and she saw Vivian sitting in the way back. Great. She walked to the back of the aware of a couple of people’s eyes on her as she walked past. She just happened to look to her left and Dimitri was sitting a couple of seats ahead of her. She never noticed him yesterday, had he been there? She sat down with Vivian and they talked about what they had done when they got home.
“Yeah, when I went home I went to go ride my horse out at the stables.”
“You have a horse?”
“Yeah, her name is Rose-even tho she’s solid white. She’s a Morgan horse.”
“What’s a Morgan horse?”
“It’s a type of horse.”
“Ah.”
“So what did you do when you got home?”
“I. Had a nap.”
“Ah, sounds like fun,” Vidian laughed. “Hey we should get together someday after school and hang!”
“Yeah that sounds cool. I ask my dad if we can get together on friday or something.”
“Sounds good.”
The rest of the way there was rode in silence. Except for the kids a few seats up blaring a song. It was actually pretty catchy:

They’re gonna clean up your looks
with all the lies in the books
to make a citizen out of you.

Because they sleep with a gun
And keep an eye on you son
So they can watch all the things you do
“What’s the name of that song, do you know?”

Because the drugs never work
They’re gonna give you a smirk
‘Cause they got methods of keeping you clean

They’re gonna rip up your heads
Your aspirations to shreds
Another cog in the murder machine

They said all teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They could care less as long as long as someone’ll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they’ll leave you alone but not me

“That. Is Teenagers by My Chemical Romance. Why?”
“I like it.”
“My favorite song by them is Dead!, but they aren’t my favorite band.”
“What is your favorite band?”
“Um . . . I don’t really have a favorite band. I listen to a lot and I like a lot. Do you have one?”
“Yeah, mines Evanescence, Slipknot, Seether, Three Days Grace, and other bands like those.”
“Really, what’s your favorite song by them?”
“Um . . . from Evanescence it’s probably Haunted, from Slipknot it’s Sulfur, Seether is Remedy, Three Days Grace is Animal I Have Become.”
“Those songs are pretty good.”
“Yeah . . .” Carrie’s eyes began to feel heavy and they soon closed.

Carrie woke up by being shaken violently.
“Hey sleeping Beauty. Time to wake up, we’re at school!”
“Where are we?”
Laughs. “We’re at school!”
Carrie bolted wide awake, looked around, and found that she was at school.
