Lyrics / Animal
verse 1
Don’t bother with the headlights
Don’t bother with the road
Don’t bother with the signs, in time
you can do this on your own
Don’t bother with the breakdowns
when feelings come on strong
Do not try to understand
why you’ll never belong
Chorus:
I know it’s wrong
but I gotta fly
You can’t come babe
don’t even try
there’s nothing I want to change
I will always be this strange
you’re hoping for a miracle
but I am my own animal
Verse 2
Don’t believe the movies
there is no happy ending
if you’ve seen what I’ve seen
you’re lucky to be standing
Chorus:
I know it’s wrong but oh,
it feels so right
you can’t come babe
don’t ask why
there’s nothing I want to change
I will always be this strange
you’re grasping at a miracle
but I am my own animal
breakdown: (whisper)
you’ve seen the world,
full of light
dreams illuminate
your night
you feel the wind and you
start to run
for what is life without a
(YELL) A little fun!
Chorus:
I know it’s wrong but I
I love to fly
I might be sober but
I feel high
the lights go down,
you’ve set the stage
no time for love,
no time for rage
the world’s a freakshow carnival
and you are you’re own animal
you are your own animal

Good!
Verse 1 is great, I wouldn’t change that.
The three choruses are good, too!
However, I got a little lost in the second verse and the breakdown:
Verse 2: I understand what you’re trying to say, but I believe it doesn’t really fit into “a song celebrating individuality”.
Breakdown: This one seems to have a similar theme as the second verse. Yet, it seems to be written from another prespective. In the second verse, you didn’t want to give in to the temptations and the (false) dreams, which the typical movie tells you about. And here the “you” seems to follows these (or at least some) dreams. So, do you accuse the “you”? If so, please tell the audience why. Or did I get it wrong? It confused me.
So, these are very good lyrics, but they also confused me. Did they confuse me because they’re confusing (or even flawed) or am I just simply stupid?

“the world’s a freakshow carnival” is the of the most original lines i have ever heard. that whole piece is worth reading just to get to that line. the first verse is my favorite. i love how you’re telling the person to not worry about warning signs. that was an ingenious way of doing it. the only thing that i see that could be critiqued is that the 2nd verse is a good bit shorter than the first, but since you added in a bridge, it doesn’t really matter. this is put together very well…great job.
