Poetry / Appreciation
There, right from the start
From your first breath
Your first cry
Your first smile
First word
First steps
Always there with a guiding hand
To pick you up when you fall down
To push you back when you go wrong
First day at school, new sights, new sounds.
Birthdays, Christmases, holidays
Ups, downs, and in-betweens
Always there with a smile, an understanding voice
Feeding you, clothing you, mucking out your pets
Undivided love, taken for granted.
I love you Mum.
I love you Dad.
Thank you

Very straight forward. when reading this I seem to envision someone speaking as valadictorian at their high-school graduation. Its linear/forward nature doesn’t detract from its poinent message. The only downside for me is the lack of language. When speaking of a parent/child relationship a wealth of words pour over me; how to describe the unearthly bond, sacrifice, patience, etc… However, what I read here is very simple, which means I’ve read this before: on a hallmark card or in a yearbook… there is room for imporvement.
