Journalism / Thank You...No Thank You
It’s strange…whenever I write thank you notes I think, What if people wrote thank u’s for thank u’s. Sometimes I will give someone a gift and then I’ll get this thank you note back that is so extravagant that it looks like it costs more than the gift I gave them. Its like sparkle poofs hanging off the edges and it sings when you open it and stuff. It’s like I almost want to write a thank u for the thank u. But I guess that would be lame.

lol. Cute. Can’t say I’ve ever gotten a thank you note quite like that – never even seen one – but your descriptions are great anyway. (Why do people do that, anyway? send ultra-expensive cards that you’re only going to throw away after letting them gather dust on the counter for a couple months? I don’t get it.)
One thing: your “thank u’s” kinda bugged me. It might just be me being picky, but “thank you’s” seems to flow better.
Well, I suppose that’s just another way to a) keep the greeting card companies in business, and b) start a conversation! In This day and age, thank yous – not to mention thank-you cards – are a dying institution. Just like so much other human courtesy, alas. I would say that one should never use abbreviations in writing – it can be construed as laziness. But why so brief? How about…a history of thank-yous, the obligations of gift-giving and receiving, etc. etc?
Deep thoughts by Jack Handy
Hehe, funny, a nice little break in my day. Thanks.
I like random thoughts. This is very randon and I thought I was the only one who had thought something weird like that. Guess not though.
you should take this further..it has a good start to it but it would be nice if it held more of a story.
I don’t think it would be lame. I think it’s be hysterical.
I am thanking you for your observation.
No pressure in feeling obligated in thanking me for thanking you.
There’s no song.
I think I got it right that this piece is about thank you notes but I don’t think that it is a journalism piece, maybe if you would have described a specific episode.
Also since this web site supposedly is about “serious” writing I think that you shouldn’t use the “u” instead of you.
Good point. Funny stuff but i agree i think it might be a little lame.
