thats the optomistic point of view. I think that evil is latched on to a lot more effectively. read any newspaper and see how many good deeds are reported, versus the evil deeds so cherished by america. We delight in evil, and minimize the good because we are more fascinated by evil due to it’s societal taboo. Sorry to go off on a rant, just a pet peeve

mmmm… Yeah, I try to be optimistic… but, really, the media – and thus a great deal of society – is utterly dark-loving. It’s like culture’s got a gothic subconsciousness. (Why do we focus on murders – actually giving murderers the dark thrill of infamy – rather than on the kind-hearted? Yah, we get sick pleasure from the “adventure” of evil, but… why? idk.)

Most people who start off all good and honest end up being corrupted by the fame. For fame and power are extremely addictive. Not to say some dont suceed and remain good people, but they are very few in number

Yes it is sad that people offten feel stupidity, and maliciousness are the road to wealth and fame.  Just look at Paris Hlton, perfect example.

id prefer not to look at her… i found that america idolizes the celebrity as a direct result of dissatisfaction of one’s own life. However most of these celebrities are not happy withtheir lives either, and cannot lead a normal healthy life and raise sane children. America looks through its pop/rap culture images at these people and expects that they will guide us through our own lives. We define success as financial power, no one respects teaching and other noble pursuits (scientists, doctors, engineers, charity fundraisers, etc). Instead we look to people like donald trump and bill gates. Sad really…..

She was just an example of stupidity and spite being, as you put it, idolized.  I agreed with you that it is sad, more then sad I think.  And you are right we are always looking to those who are cultural icons as role modles, when there are people in our own families who are better suited for the position.

role models can be found anywhere – we just got to be sure to pick the right ones

thats just a small side effect of fame… usually people with fame end up with nothing more than before they became famous

Kudos for your son – many people cant say know to that type of lifestyle. I doubt i could make that choice. You must be proud of him – i know i would be proud of my child for a decision like that. Shows he knows whats really important in life.
