this doesn’t make sense to me.. unless ‘so you better just make it yourself.’ means resign yourself to what you have? in which case, it needs re-thinking & re-wording.
happiness is only hard to find if you reach for what you can’t attain, setting your sights too high. it also can’t be generalised, as it depends on each individual’s personality, to what happiness is.

I love this quote because it is true. Things outside of us can only accentuate our happiness and if we keep looking for external sources of happiness, we will never be happy. I find that it is my thoughts that make me unhappy (apart from the odd jerk—lol). We need to be responsible for our own happiness.
happiness is hard to find but its easier through friends then just making it yourself.
Well, this quote is cute and all, but it sounds slightly bitter. (I’m not sure if this is intentional or not.) To me, it sounds like its speaker has sought happiness with others, been let down, and is trying to make himself or herself be happy. That’s really sad, actually. Personally, I don’t believe that happiness can be made by one person. Not real happiness. Certainly not joy (which is deeper and more lasting than happiness). Basically, then, I think that the wording and the undertone of this quote don’t agree. While its content seems bitter, the wording… isn’t. It’s fairly passive, actually, wheras bitterness is a very involved emotion. Something about the way these two points coexist doesn’t sit well with me. That’s my impression, anyway.
As far as first-read-flow is concerned, it just needs some word between “you” and “better.” “Had” would work, I think.

Hi, I like the play on words of “find” vs. “make”, so that point is well taken and well done.
Credible criticism:
Real reviewers, not those who just want to make you happy just to score credits, will find a “loop hole”. What loophole? The fact that there are many people out there who simply do not possess what it takes to make themselves happy (in a way that they view happiness). So, while some can see this as motivational, others might see it as a little “loose”.
Constructive input to tighten this up:
Change the text a little:
ex. “better just make it yourself” to something like “try…to make it yourself”. It gives the quote a whole different perspective.
The way you wrote it is closed ended. You “better” suggests that we all can and should as fact, while using “try” is more open ended. It suggests a “psychological” effort on behalf of the reader and suggests several outcomes that still make your point: if the person at least tried, at least he or she is not sitting on his or her ass just waiting for something happiness to come.
Hope this helps. Chris
Yes, I like this a lot because it puts the responsibility right where it should be: squarely on the shoulders of the individual. It’s all about perception and how you react to each situation. It’s your choice to enjoy life, and it’s best to take on that responsibility yourself. Nice!
this is a really cool quote…it has alot of meaning….and, its true,
very nice, Crystal
