Criticism / “ON A NINE INCH SCREEN.”

                               “ON A NINE INCH SCREEN.”

I see the faces of frightened -worried spouses wanting but not wanting to know.
Just what the significant other is up to when they are away.
All the while human curiosity will get the better of them,
They cannot look away.
Years later, they will say
“If only I hadn’t known, I would have been better off.”
But not today, no today is for looking, today is for knowing and discovery and all the cruel things one person can do to another will be laid out and dissected so all can see and hear and feel.
And the Springer crowd screams, “Jerry, Jerry, Jerry.”
While we all cringe closer to our tiny screens,
Hoping to see some bit of flesh?
No, I think we are hoping to see someone torn apart.
Bit’s and piece’s of a vulgarity to horrible to even consider.
But we still sit and watch, waiting for the moment when the insignificant other reveals the awful secret that we already know is coming, but still we are here cringing, slobbering, mumbling, grunting and wetting our lips in anticipation.
And the Maury crowd grunts “Maury, Maury, Maury.”
BREAKING NEWS, BREAKING NEWS.
Another Blackhawk has crashed, all seven aboard are feared lost, two soldiers were shot and killed in a far off distant land we had no reason to be in anyway but we are protecting America according to the gods in Washington.
Somewhere in the nation’s heartland a mother cries
A Brother sits silent on the edge of his bed staring out into nothingness.
A father slams his fist through the wall completely oblivious that he has broken four of his fingers because of the sorrow he feels.
As the tears fall from the faces in a river of grief.
The network monkey smiles and spouts, “The coalition forces report the fighting was heavy and they have gained control of a day care center in the heart of Baghdad and we only killed three hundred and fifty Iraqis.”…..Details at eleven.
Oprah cries, while promoting her latest self-help rag.
Ricki is concerned about lesbian Nazi Jew’s from outer space.
While the Montel crowd shouts “Montel, Montel, Montel”.
Sitting still, we watch as if something new will appear.
Knowing that in all probability, it never would.
We lean in closer to see and hear.
But it is the same old thing just no good.
Then late at night,…when the screen has gone grey.
Sleep comes to our red tired eyes.
We roll off to bed and our comfortable lives.
Far away, the soldiers huddle in a cold hole in the ground.
Some sleep, some stare off into the stars.
And we all wait for the next round.
