Bobo was an old dog I had when I was a child, Gogi was a singer in the fifties “Gogi Grant” was her full name. The song was “The Wayward Wind.” My Mother sang it a lot while doing her daily Mother act. I will correct the imperfections. Thanks for the review.
Poetry / Honey, flowers, Bees, and Trees.
Honey, flowers, Bees, and Trees.
Breakfast cooking in the kitchen
I can smell the bacon and eggs
Mother is singing along with Gogi
As I roll out of my warm bed
I realize
I am six, today I am six.
Life is good
All the world is out there waiting
Waiting for me
And I am six
Everything is a wonder to me
Just discovering life And things life can bring
Like how good honey is on pancakes
And isn’t it funny where honey comes from
Bees, who would have thought
Only God could do that
Only humans would eat it
I giggle aloud
Mother smiles and goes on singing as she does the dishes
After finishing breakfast and cleaning our plates
Its bursting out of the front door
Don’t let the screen slam shut Mother says
But it does anyway as we stream out into the sun
Shouting with glee
Barefoot and in cut off jeans
Running through the fields
Feeling the warm sand beneath our toes
Bobo barking and chasing along showing us all the things only dogs can find
Grasshoppers that fly away
Butterflies drifting on the wind
Lizards scurrying to the shelter of stones
Creek’s filled with trees beautiful trees
Trees that sing with the wind
Squirrels chatter within their branches
Along the bank of the dark water creek
Turtles pop their heads just above the surface of the water
While I skip stones over it
Bobo runs along the shore barking,
At whatever lurks in the dark water
Probably just an old catfish perhaps a snake
But no matter no bother
Life is a wonder
Yes a wonder when I am six

that’s really cute.
very descriptive and full of imagery. It does show how the young child spends each day blissfully unaware about everything but that exact moment in time.
How I miss those times…

Oh, this is beautiful. Don’t we all long for those days? Perhaps I’m getting old, but this makes me feel so nostalgic.
I’d like some guidance as to how to read it, though, i.e. punctuation, and your capitalization is inconsistent (why is Honey capitalized? And Barking?).
While I can figure out who Bobo is through the context, who is Gogi?
I do love this piece!
