Poetry / The Existentialist
“The existentialist”
What do I attempt
to show the world I am?
Am I driven by false pride?
Do I build a wall layered
with worldly achievements
only to stand atop
hands lifted
excitedly chanting:
I win.
Tell me what this wall is worth
if I stand atop alone.
Hands outstretched
and shouts unheard.
Below the people dance
Share moments of love
Befriending and hugging
Smiling and sharing stories
Beauty embraced.
I never fathomed an unkind ending
until I took a step down
sat beside my wall
and befriended the humble.
Incomparable to any human emotion
is selflessness.
-an honest understanding of innocence.
