Poetry / Leaving the Past Behind

Eyes widen
Breath quickens
Heart races
As I see her walking towards me
And suddenly I want to flee

It’s been so long
Everything between us is wrong
Can she see how I feel?
I wonder if this is for real
Or if I am dreaming

I feel guilty, betrayed, angry, sad
When I think about all that we had
Does she feel the same way?
Remember when we used to play
And everything was okay?

Before, we were friends
Now I barely know her
The years have gone by in a blur

We used to be so close
Until the fight broke us apart,
Leaving an ache inside my heart
That has never fully healed

Sometimes I don’t recall
Anything that happened at all
Not even what the fight was about
And I can’t help but doubt
That we fought for the right reasons
Because looking back, it all seems so stupid
Although it felt important at the time

Now that she has reached me
I don’t know what to say
And before I know it, she’s glancing away
Our stare is broken

Ignoring me, she walks on, down the hall
As though she never saw me at all
Back up, goes the wall
Between us
And I fight the urge to call
Out to her

Because things have changed,
Lives have been rearranged,
Nothing is the same
I have known this for awhile

It’s time to stop dwelling on the past,
To move on at last
This is how it is
I have to accept it
And let go

So once again, we go our separate ways
And this is how it stays
For now

man your young you can’t be dwelling on mistakes made.  even with relationships. these are the worst. but at the same time they are the best in that now you have a chance to take everything you learned from this experience and bring it to your next relationship. Your work is good. You go into what happened but only scratch the surface which is good.  and all the feelings of break up is all located throughout the poem.  very passionate of what you speak and you can tell by just reading this that you really still hope this can all work out and mend back together. good work man
