Actually, I almost always use lower case and no punctuation in haiku and tanka. Mostly for aesthetic reasons. It eliminates the arguments about whether certain words should begin with caps, where a comma or period should or shouldn’t be, etc.
For example, if I start each complete sentence with a cap and use one or more proper nouns, haiku and tanka begin to look jumpy.
Also, I try to form a complete thought in each line, leaving no lines dependent upon preceding or following lines. This helps minimize the need for punctuation.
But now that you mention it, the concept of the created pseudo-being as an i* rather than *I is interesting. Much appreciated.
