Poetry / Teddy Bears and Rag Dolls
Teddy bears and ragdolls with Humpty Dumpty feet
Roller skates and scooters zooming down the street,
“Thunderbirds”, “Stingray” and ”Captain Scarlet” too,
Sherbert dips, penny chews and “Let’s go to the zoo!”
Ice cream and candy floss, a fun fair in the park,
Whizzing round on bumper cars, bright lights in the dark.
Picnics in the garden, water from the hose
Running round the deckchairs, barefoot little toes!
“Pass the parcel” “Musical bumps”
Sandpits, space hoppers and new black pumps.
Playing “Tag” and marbles, your ”Dobber” down the drain,
Being the last one found in “Hide and Seek”…again!
Fishing for ”taddies”, climbing trees,
Falling off ‘bikes and skimming your knees,
Chasing the milk float, begging for a ride,
Playing out all day until it’s time to come inside.
“Mousetrap”, “Twister”, ”Ker-Plunk”and “Buckaroo”
And “here’s one I made earlier…now see what you can do!”
Tea, bath and bed-time stories when the day is done,
Reading books by torchlight, always twice the fun.
From summer sun to winter rain
We will not see this like again.
