Poetry / at the present day
at the present day
there are many sighns that
we have ruined this rock
our home
Earth
as far as human habitation goes.
and when we leave it and
head for fresh pastures to ruin somewhere
in the hevens-
Earth will at first be
a popular talking point:
‘Didnt we have it good’
‘yes, yes’
‘why, why…’
The frist space collonists,
at first stricken numb with all consuming guilty grief,
will over time put events behind them,
finding different perspectives along the way
with which to bury the simple but unfaceable truth.
one space generation down,
with a touch of denial,
Earth will be remembered
as a place of huge historical importance
the birthplace of our proud race.
Two down- Earth’s product selling
profit potential will be once again realized.
Buy both bluey-green
or brown versions
of our beloved homeworld
to hang from your tree shaped oxygen circulators.
Three down- As the final homeworld suvivors
die off
and are carted off to be disected, preserved
and sold to museums,
Earth will gradually edge into ledgend and folklore.
Ten down- Earth is written as a mythical Eden,
whith which we were cast from for commiting some sort of
glutinous metaphore.
At the sight of a globe
people drop to their knees in prayer
lining the streets
faces filled with tears
wet eyes reflecting
immages of mother earth in dying breath with oil-well hand holes.
And all of this
because
man will follow anyone who looks like
they know where
their going
