Criticism / movie review and dicussion

After watching “Pirates of Silicon Valley”, I was asked to express my views on how Bill Gates and Steve Jobs should have run Microsoft and Apple. I will first judge Bill Gates performance, then move on to Steve Jobs.

Everyone who watched this movie probably thought that Bill Gates’ performance was excellent. Gates was aggressive with his company; I believe you need to be aggressive to have a successful business. Merging with “Apple” worked out to be a great deal for Gates. Three things happened; he tapped into Jobs’ business, stole his idea, and ultimately defeated Steve Jobs. When Gates aggressively stole Apple’s idea, he changed the name, he performed minor tweaks, and made the public think he was the greatest. This combination of three effects propelled Gates past Apple. Bill Gates is a genius. Gates pulled this off with a workforce of three people, while working normal hours. When I compare this workforce to Apple’s, it makes Gates accomplishment much greater. Steve Jobs had many employees’, who worked 90 hours per week, and Apple still went under. Bill Gates didn’t need to change.

While I watched “Pirates of Silicon Valley” for the first time, Steve Jobs seemed very disrespectful and demanding; it seems that at the end, these traits led to his demise. Steve Jobs became clone-like of the fictional boss from hell that everybody complains about. Jobs worked his people to the skin and bone. This is one thing he had to change. Normal working hours could have kept his employees from not despising Steve Jobs. Anybody that likes their job will not put out 90 hours per week. Another changeable mistake of Jobs was his interaction with his daughter. The little girl could have given Jobs confidence in Apple, and his worker. Jobs should’ve paid attention to his wife and kid. Anyone benefits from spending time with a loved one. Jobs greatly underestimated Bill Gates and his two employees. When Gates pulled the wool over Jobs’ eyes, Steve Jobs never saw it coming. I think as a boss, you should know everything about a company that you have taken under your wing. When Jobs found out about Gates’ plan, all Jobs can do is get mad and yell. Jobs found out too late, and that’s a huge mistake for a boss.

I think you’ve written this pretty well. I didn’t see the movie you are talking about at all but I can get the fair gist of it from your description. I’m not user if this is a review though.
Why? Simply because you didn’t express your thoughts on the film itself but on the characters that were involved in the movie. You’ve done that perfectly, though, telling us your opinion and where their flaws were. However, if it is a strcit film review you’re wanting to write you have to look at the film as a whole and then split it up into pieces where you will take a look at the script, acting, characters and your own opinion of all these things.
Hope this helps and good luck with your writing

I suppose I will need to watch this movie in order to completely evaluate your assessment. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are the targets of much parody, scrutiny, and criticism. I suppose one needs to look at Microsoft and Apple as companies and less at the individuals at the top.

Even though the ending was told (and everyone knew it anyway  - you have just made me want to watch that movie.  I had no interest in it before.  Gates only had 3 people?

It sends a positive message out there for all the Davids who think they cannot win over the Goliaths out there.

AND – it sends a message out there for the people who are like the Goliaths – you can get slaughtered!!

I think this was pretty well written, and a good recall of what happened in the movie. However, I think that people must take into account that even though Jobs was a terrible boss, and maybe a terrible person as well. Gates’s unethical choices make him no better than the person he rebelled against.

cool, I didn;t know they had a movie about them. I’m looking forward to seeing a movie about the people who created the ipod. Just to see how they think and come up with these ideas.

I never heard of this movie.  In fact, I had a positive image of Jobs before I read this review and a negative image of Gates.  Now, I’m confused.

I will have to watch Pirates of Silicon Valley, just because I’ve been tipped over.  Of course, I’ll form my own opinion based on what I see.  But I’m impressed that you were able to ‘reboot’ my impressions of these two giants with a mere 384 words.

I certainly have a more informed opinion now than prior to reading your piece. I’ve always sensed that people either love Bill Gates or dispise him.  It seems that you favor him.  About all I know about Microsoft is that They/He has made a lot of money, and I wouldn’t know what to do without my Windows XP.

This appears to be an informed article based on knowledgable of the media.
